5.0 out of 5 stars Finally "get" Frye
Wow, I've tried several styles of Frye and never got why people raved about there comfort and classic styling, until I tried the Carson riding. My foot is slightly wide and these fit great. they were a tad snug, not tight at first, but I compare them to a belt made of great leather, stretches after a couple of wears. The leather by the way is so awesome. The opening stays...

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice Boots for skinny legs
I ordered the 9.5 as I usually wear 9.5 to 10. I could get the boots up over my larger calves, however tight. The emerald is dark, but doesn't look black.

so, I really love these boots. They are beautiful and the leather has a nice sheen although, the leather could be a little thicker. I am always an 8 in Fryes but I need a 7.5 in these. I could have got an insole and they would have been fine but I opted to exchange them for the smaller size. The look is very cool although I think that it is uncessary for Frye to make the toes of their boots so long. I was surprised that they did not make my feet look huge but do not expect that they will make your feet look tiny either. Regardless of the flaws of the boot, they look so great with everything and the colors are rich (I got the Emerald). Finally, a boot for girls with thinner calves. They slouch but are not huge like some of the other styles.

If you have skinny calves these may slouch. i ordered them in emerald and fell so in love I now have the carson pull on in black and shortie in tan, they're that good. these boots run large though I am a solid 7 but took a 6 1/2. You will fall in love with these Fryes.

The Frye Carson Riding boot is beautiful! It has a very thin silhouette compared to most of the Frye's I've tried on which have always been very wide in the shaft. This boot will probably not work for the larger-calved ladies out there! Also, I am usually a 7.5 in shoes but with Frye's I find it's always a guessing game... With these I read that the toe is a bit longer so I went with a 6.5 and it's perfect! However, I feel like its so perfect that it may take some breaking in time - if that makes sense... I opted for the Emerald Green based solely on price ($150 bucks for Frye's!? How could I resist?) I can't say I was looking for green boots but the color is very dark and thus do-able for me. I don't agree that it looks black but its not too flashy and colorful either! Actually quite a nice rich tone that I think will grow on me as I wear them in :) A process I am very much looking forward to! Quality and craftsmanship is, as always, impeccable.

I have been wanting a pair of Fryes for a LONG time. I tried the Harness boots, but they were too bulky and heavy for me. I tried the Carson Riding Boots at Nordstroms and fell in love with them, but could not justify the $348 (plus almost 10% CA sales tax!) price tag. I also wanted the Emerald Green, and they did not have them. When I saw the Emerald Green in my size and on sale on Amazon, I figured I MUST have them! Boy, am I happy! These boots are the most lovely color of dark green (almost black, but definately green in the sun). I have large calves, so I cannot pull them up all the way, but they still work out well; they just slouch a bit. They are SUPER comfortable and don't need any time to break in. I can see why people buy them 1/2 size down. I typically wear a 10 or 11 and the size 10 is just the slightest bit too big (my heel slips out the back). Even though they are not a tight fit, I will still keep them and just wear a thicker pair of socks with them. The only downfall is that they are made in Mexico...I thought all Frye Boots were crafted in the USA...oh well!

5.0 out of 5 stars new Frye lover!, February 26, 2010

This is my first pair of Frye boots. I was looking for a style that had been on sale on another site and sold out. I came across the Carson riding on sale here and thought the emerald would be fun. I'm definitely not the cowboy boot type (I always think you have to have horses to wear them)so didn't know if I would like them. They are not too western for me and are really cute! Wonderful boots; so comfortable and the leather is pliable and a beautiful color, almost black but not quite. It goes with a lot more colors than you would think. Very slippery, though, so scuff them up on the bottom. I read reviews before buying and did go down half a size to a 7 and they fit with room for socks. My calf is 13.5" and the shaft on these is about 14" so perfect for tights and skinny jeans (also look really good with skirts). They would stretch out pretty easily if a little tight at first, I think. As a result of this purchase, I now have a couple more pair of Frye boots and I'm a convert!

2.0 out of 5 stars Carson Riding Boot, October 20, 2011
Disappointed with the quality of the leather & the boot was too big for my calves. I wear a size nine bought an eight an 1/2 in black (and it really wasn't black more of a charcoal black), fit was fine. Just not the boot for me. The search continues...

Love them. Get compliments all the time. Ordered half a size smaller than I usually get, and they fit perfectly.
