Product Description

Penny loafer

The Frye Company is the oldest continuously operated shoe company in the United States. Founded in 1863 by John A. Frye, a well-to-do shoemaker from England, and family-run until 1945, Frye products have a long and illustrious history. Frye boots were worn by soldiers on both sides of America's Civil War, soldiers in the Spanish-American war, and by Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders. When home-steading drew adventurous New England families to the West during the mid and late 1800's many of the pioneers wore Frye Boots for the long journey. Today Frye remains true to its roots with its line of heritage boots, but continues to innovate as it introduces chic new handbags, pumps, and sandals to its collection.

I pretty much wear a womens size 8 in every shoe. I wear a 7.5 in TOMS which as a guide I buy fairly snug because they stretch. So I ordered these in a 7.5 because I knew I would wear them bare foot and figured the leather would stretch a little over time and didn't want to end up with something too big in a few months....
They are HUGE in the 7.5!! and fall off the back of my heel when I walk. I admittedly do have pretty skinny/ boney feet BUT they are wider than I had hoped for a loafer. I reckon a person who wears an 8.5 could easily fit into these 7.5's.
So I had to decide what to do after sending them back....do I replace them??? Well frankly Yes! because they're gorgeous and in true Fry style the leather is soft and they just look like a lovely, stylish, well made shoe. I will write an update on the size 7 and keep everything crossed that they are shorter and narrower all round.

This shoe is soft and comfortable to wear without socks. The leather is slightly distressed giving it a nice broken in look and feel. I haven't tried it yet for standing long periods of time or extensive walking but its fine for everyday wear to work, shop, etc.

I bought these one month ago and was in love when I received them. Super cute and buttery soft - comfortable right out of the box. They were to be my official Shoe of Autumn. They got many compliments right away. They do fit slightly large. I usually buy 9.5 (or occasionally 10) in Frye boots. I ordered these in 9.5 and they feel slightly roomy, especially in toe length. I think that's part of what makes them so comfortable though!

Unfortunately, it's now a month later and there's already a hole worn through the sole. Admittedly, I wear them frequently and my daily life involves quite a bit of walking (I commute by foot and train). It's disappointing. I expect a lot from Frye and the durability of these is a let down. And because it's not actually a separate sole, I don't think there's anyway I can have them repaired. I think these shoes will be barely last me through this season and then they'll be done.

Tl;dr - If you don't walk a few miles a day on pavement, these are great shoes.

The shoe itself is comfortable however the color I chose I felt was too orangy. I am going to return because of the color, other than that, it's a great shoe.

I purchased these because they were beautiful! After reading reviews I purchased an entire size smaller than normal. I usually wear an 8.5. Although the left foot fit perfectly, the right one was tight. It probably would have loosened up quite a bit. However, I returned them because of the sole. I did not realize that the sole was leather with knobs that were separated. In between each knob is exposed seam. It is most definitely a driver, not a walker. I was very disappointed because I LOVE the look of these. The leather is beautiful and supple. True Frye craftsmanship!

These loafers are beautiful and comfortable. I like the look, the style, the comfort--the shoes are wonderful. However, having read others' reviews of the loafer, I knew that the shoe had a tendency to run "large" so I ordered a 1/2 size smaller than I normally would. The smaller size is a good fit.
