They are very comfortable and a GREAT boot!

The heel was a little loose, but I have very narrow heels compared to the width of my toes/ball of foot.

I've been wanting these boots for a long time and finally pulled trigger on getting them. Because of other reviews I've read, I knew that lot of people reported that they ran small and I ordered two sizes. I normally wear an 8 and occasionally a 7.5. I ordered 8 and 8.5. The 8s were very difficult to put on so I kept the 8.5s. But after wearing them a few times and giving them a chance to break in a little (these are really stiff boots that you'll want to spend some time breaking in before you do a lot of walking), I think I might have been better keeping the 8s. The only solace I take in keeping the larger size is that I can always wear thicker socks with them and my feet are only going to get bigger as a I age, and I intend to wear these boots for the rest of my life (the only way I can justify the cost). I partictularly love the color of these, which is a very dark brown that works equally well with a black outfit as it does with other colors.

It took forever to decide to buy these boots, because I didn't want a big, chunky, masculine boot, but I did want something sturdy and rugged yet feminine. Received my boots today (in Slate) and I couldn't be happier. They are gorgeous, fit perfectly right out of the box and are not at all masculine looking. I'm also petite and was concerned that they would overwhelm me. Not the case at all, and I am so thrilled. It's been a long time since I had a pair of everyday boots that I truly love. So if you're on the fence about these boots, I say go for it!

EDIT: 9/14/12 - I'm no longer impressed with these boots. The first pair I ordered lasted less than a month. After wearing them only a handful of times, with socks, the insoles on both boots separated and started to peel up. Returned and Amazon was great... even shipping out new boots at no cost before I returned the defective pair. Well, just opened the replacement pair and the craftsmanship is very poor for the price of these shoes. Both out-soles were either constructed poorly, or these boots have been worn before. I will be returning my second pair for a refund. I will try another brand for my next pair. I'll give two stars because they are very cute, just poorly made.

Several years back, I purchased a pair of Frye boots that were style number #77511 and the spitting image of the boots in the photos (as of this posting) After an uncomfortable three-week break in period, those things have seen me through thick and thin, hikes, an industrial workplace (no, really) and still manage to be stylish. After several years of admirably fielding some serious wear, I decided I needed to get their successors broken in while the originals were still in one piece.

So taking advantage of a nice sale and going off the photo, I ordered the pair I'm reviewing. These were stamped with the number #175811 And they are only a pale shadow of my originals.

    The good
The style is as handsome as ever.
The leather around the ankle and calf is thin and soft. This is undesirable for me, but some may prefer the decreased chafing during the breaking in period.
The narrowness might appeal to a daintier person who wants boots but nothing too bulky or clompy
The buckles (if not the leather) appear to be the same quality as on my original pair.

    The bad
The leather is thinner and is more red and black than the delicious deep brown the photos indicate.
The attention to detail around the seams and edges is poor. Glue showing, etc.
There's no marking for size, width, or country of origin anywhere on or inside the boot.
I ordered half a size smaller than the originals, these are half an inch shorter, and a half-inch narrower which seems greater than a mere half-size difference. So they run a bit small and narrow.
The heel of the boot sticks out in back an easy eighth-inch more than on my first set. Which indicates a lack of attention to detail, isn't as attractive, and increases the risk of catching when going downstairs.

currently breaking in the boots. This morning they fit a little snug across the toe and the instep, but now that we're in the afternoon they are already starting to loosen. I'm very glad that I followed the advice of other postings and ordered my exact size instead of going up or down.
they are cutting up my feet a little bit in the heel, but I hope that this will end once they get broken in!!! i absolutely love them

I ordered these boots because I like the classic design and quality workmanship. I found that the boot was very tight at first almost returned because I couldn't fit my foot in with out squeezing. I read other reviews so I had them stretched by a cobbler at the top and around the ankle area. With some wear they broke in nicely although it does take some time. I wore them for short periods of time for about three months before they were comfortable enough to wear all day. It was worth the break in period as these are my favorite and most comfortable boots I have ever owned. I have been wearing them for over a year now and love how they still look great. Wear them with dresses, jeans, and skirts and get plenty of compliments. Only thing is that I wish they were still made 100% in the U.S.A.
