This book is a valuable tool for those taking the FTCE.It reviews every competency you'll need to know for this exam, including a neat summary of the basic psychological theories at the beginning of the book. I took this exam in 1998 without any prep book like this available and I did pass the exam.This book tells you the pass score needed. At the outset I was thrown by the questions, but the strategy I adapted apparently payed off.Going in, all I had to prepare me was the skimpy test booklet provided by the State of Florida certification division. But if you're really serious about getting through this exam at the first go, then this book is a must. I am now using this book as a tutoring aid when I coach others for this rather quirky exam.One quick hint for test-takers: this particular exam's questions are best answered by the process of elimination.Good luck!

This book does an excellent job of explaining the competencies and the two tests at the end of the book were right on! I liked the fact that there were explanations of the correct practice exam answers so that the reader could understand why the answer was correct. I also liked that the book applies the behavioral theories to actual classroom scenarios so the reader could see the theories in action. Other teachers who took this same exam without using this study guide failed (a few times) but I passed on the first try and I believe this book was the reason. I would definitely recommend this book!!

This book provides the reader a chapter by chapter review of the topics to be covered on the test. Many of the basic theories are covered by the authors of this guide. The practice tests are very useful and allows the individual to emphasize the weak points from the pretest.

While certainly not providing a solution for all items to be covered, this brings many major areas to the forefront. A simple read of this book will probably not help. A highlighter, notes and index cards for perusing the chapters will be most beneficial while preparing for this state test.

As the title of this review clearly states, don't completely rely on this book for your professional exam.
You have to know your stuff!
Divide the chapters to help you cover the whole book..don't cram because it will not help. The exam is filled with real-life scenarios and tricky answers because more than one might seem correct. I passed in the first shot but take the necessary precautions so you won't have to pay double to re-take it.

A simple MUST for any teacher in Florida who must pass the Profession Education test for Florida teacher certification.

I used this book, along with the Cliff's book to prepare for the Professional Education Test. I have never taught, nor do I have any background in Education so I really needed good books to prepare. This book assumes that you know many of the concepts and theories used in Education. While the Cliff's book focuses on giving details on every theory and concept you should know for education, it doesn't do a great job connecting and relating concepts to multiple applications in the field. The way the actual test is structured, you need to know how to apply the concept(s) because they wont ask you to give definitions or to explain them. Therefore, the REA book does a good job of applying terms and concepts to different scenarios so it's very similar to how you will see the questions on the test. In conclusion, I think this book is very helpful in preparing you for the application of competencies that you need to know, but don't rely on this book to give you a good overview of the competencies.

I read the book more than twice and I did not pass the test successfuly. Fortunately, I found another book with more information. I did pass the test.
