5.0 out of 5 stars Creative game with tons of replay value September 18, 2013
Platform for Display:PC Download| Edition:Steam|Verified Purchase
The story line is vivid and creative, I've never gotten bored reading the text. I feel invested in the choices I make, and the outcomes of conversations are often changed by how you react, what crew you bring with you, and very often what pieces of equipment you've found or purchased along the way.

Plenty of ways to play the game, too. You can fire large volleys of lasers at your enemy, burn or suffocate the enemy crew with beam weapons that cut across multiple rooms of their ship, let your automatic droids over power the enemy without you lifting a finger, or sent in your crew for hand to hand combat and pick their ship clean of resources.

Never let your guard down though, because the enemy will surprise you and do this to you too. Expect to die in deep space a few time before you make it to the end. But don't let that get you down, I had just as much fun losing as I did winning. I have played through many times and still get caught off guard occasionally, which is a good thing, it keeps the game fresh and gives it tons of replay value.

You can't rely on "finding the instant win button," because it doesn't exist. I prefer certain types of strategies, but the player is at the mercy of what he can find at the randomly placed stores he finds, and what is salvageable among the wreckage of the enemies he crushes. You are often forced to change your plan of attack between each play through and adapt to what you may not have been expecting to find in deep space.

Lots of customization among the 18 layout of the 9 ships.

Soundtrack fit perfectly with the space theme, masterfully composed.

10/10, Would (and have) recommend to all my friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great game May 26, 2014
Platform for Display:PC Download| Edition:Steam|Verified Purchase
This is one of the best roguelikes i've ever played. It's a great space adventure that puts you in varius situation with each FTL Jump. You've got to make tough decisions and some of the restults are often random but it's extremely satisfying. Although I haven't competed the game it's still a heck of a lot of fun to play. This game isn't easy and you will die and have to restart but it's worth it for the journey. FTL is a great game and I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very fun and got lots of hours out of it May 28, 2014

Despite the relatively simple mechanics of the game it is extremely fun and very in depth in it's various strategies. It is also very challenging. I played many hours and have yet to complete a full game (that final boss is a MONSTER).

5.0 out of 5 stars FTL: Learning how to play the hand delt to you December 2, 2013
By Wanton
Platform for Display:PC Download|Edition:Steam
FTL can be considered a game of many genre's, but I prefer to think of it as game of chance. I will get into what I mean by this later, but needless to say if you HATE games that take some of the control on winning or losing from you, don't purchase this game.

A quick description of the game would be: You are a ship trying to go from one end of the galaxy to the other to deliever a report on a Genocidal enemy fleet. Exploring planets and bases in each Solar system as you move forward can lead to fights or random encounters, which can be a blessing or a curse, pending your supplies and health. You can only explore each solar system for so long, as a massive enemy fleet that will destroy you in moments arrives in each solar system you jump to, to kill you. As you travel, you can gain new crew members, from different species that can drastically change your ships survivability. As you progress, the threat of death at your heels, and unknown doom every planet you explore, makes for one of the most exciting games you could ever play.

FTL has to be one of the most enjoyable games I have played in years. Even when dying, you learn so much in each game, that you are happy to hit new game and start again. Rarely did I get frustrated with the game, even when it seemed stacked against me, because there are so many incentives the game gives you to replay. You don't have to beat the game to unlock new ships, or races to play as; you only have to obtain achievements for new content. Simply, you don't have to reach the end to have a new experience with the game. While nothing else carries over (money and such) the games system allows you to never feel like it was all for naught, and is a driving point for me to keep playing.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!!!!! Beware this game is ADDICTING!!!!!!!! August 16, 2013
Platform for Display:PC Download| Edition:Steam|Verified Purchase
While seemingly simple and somewhat plain looking, this may be one of the best RPGs in years. Yups, I said it BEST... in years!!!

First off let me give ya a rundown of the game:
You control a spaceship. You are on the run from an advancing enemy army. You must improve and manage your ship to defeat anyone who stands in your path. You can: board enemy ships or decimate enemy ships with missiles or with lasers or with robotic drones or cloak and avoid enemy fire or etc... etc.

While the graphics are not super impressive, they are super functional. It's almost as if the creators of this game figured out the the mathematical equation of how to minimize the HUD while still showing you everything you would ever need to manage a starship. It's stunningly hard and stunningly addictive as a result. Even on easy this game is hard. But... BUT... as a result of the great gameplay, the game is almost perfect.

I, without even realizing it, have already sunk nearly thirty hours into the game. And every time I play it, I still love it.

Horrifyingly awesome. They need more rogue-likes like this. Storyline was kind of lacking but gameplay made up for it.

Surprisingly fun for a simple game reminiscent of the 1990s. Graphics are OK, but gamelay is very challenging.

VERY hard to beat. Too many negative random events can be frustrating enough to make you re-start your game. Definitely a challenge.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely great!
I can not speak highly enough of this game. The only downside is that it's so addictive. I've actually bought it for friends, just so that they can get caught up in it too.

The game seems simple enough but it get hectic fast but keeps you coming back for more. I have yet to beat the boss at the end.
