Unbelievable!, March 13, 2010
This review is from: FURminator DeShedding Tool (MEDIUM) with free shampoo (Misc.)
I got my Australian Shepherd mix in November and around the end of January, she began to shed like crazy. We have hardwood floors and I would find piles of fur collecting in corners and pooled around chair legs. I started brushing her with a wire slicker brush every day (which she hated), but despite how much hair would come off in the brush, it didn't seem to help the shedding at all.
So I scoured the internet and found this magical tool. The reviews were almost all amazing and I had seen the astounding photos of the piles of hair that supposedly came off, so I decided to give it a shot. In stores, the medium brush can cost $45 or more, but I got a great deal on Amazon.
THE BRUSH
In 3 days, I had the brush. It's basically a fine toothed metal comb on an ergonomic handle. It DOES NOT cut the hair. It combs out the loose hair. I thought the medium size was perfect for my dog and I think it would work for most any dog - unless you have a Chihuahua or a Great Pyrenees.
THE RESULTS
Once I had the brush, I got to work. My husband was skeptical, but after only a few strokes, we were both smiling and staring in wide-eyed amazement. The reviews were right! The photos were real! This brush removed enough hair to make up 2 small dogs in that one night! It was unbelievable. Over the next week, I noticed a dramatic reduction in shedding. No more piles of hair in the corners of my living room.
THE DOWNSIDE?
There are a few things that everyone should know about this brush:
TIME
I will say that for my dog, it takes a good long time to brush the hair out completely. I do it in short sessions (20-30 min) over 2-3 days now every 2 weeks or so to keep the shedding under control.
DOG'S PREFERENCES
My dog didn't like the brush any more than the other one - at first, though she is fine with it now. Some dogs who don't like being brushed may not like this either.
WARRANTY
After the first 10 minutes or so, I noticed 2 teeth missing on the comb. By the end of the session, 3 more were missing. This is barely noticeable and does not affect the comb's effectiveness. I looked at the warranty and broken teeth are not covered. I have not had any more teeth disappear and I have used the Furminator many times since then.
INSTRUCTIONS
This is not a downside, but everyone should read the directions. Your dog needs to be dry when you use the Furminator. Also, your dog shouldn't have any tangles - if she does, brush them out with a brush and then use the Furminator.
This is really an amazing brush. I highly recommend it.

A friend reccomended this product to us. We have a pug who is CONSTANTLY shedding and it drives me crazy. Using the Furminator a couple times a week has reduced the amount of hair I sweep up by a factor of ten! It literally saved my dogs life and my sanity. Plus, she loves the extra attention!
