5.0 out of 5 stars no better shedder
works amazingly well, i use to shed my donkeys' thick winter coats. follow directions closely to not push to hard on the hair and results amazing. smaller sizes great for dogs and cats too. good for animals who will not tolerate electric clippers. why wasn't this around sooner?

versus
3.0 out of 5 stars Works well, but too pricey
I bought one of these in March and thought it was probably worth the price, but not much more. As others noted, you had to clear the comb after every pass and the large head made it difficult to get a good look on the neck, shoulders and legs. Loaned it to a friend who also liked it so she wanted to order one. Price had gone up 30% (up--same seller). Perhaps needless...

This thing really works well. Yes, it IS much better than a shedding blade. No, it will not cut the coat.

Do not hesitate to buy this product for your horse(s). This year, I was able to shed mine out in half the time, with half the effort. This is a quality product, and I felt it was money well spent! In fact, I bought (2) so that both my husband and I each had one for our horses' grooming kit. It does not damage their coats, and you don't need to exert any pressure whatsoever to obtain results. Fantastic!

I used my smaller yellow medium sized deshedder on 3 horses to get their winter coat off and it was AWESOME. It works on their summer coat too but it worked SO well to get their winter coat off that everything else seems to pale in comparison. I also like that I can hold it in a number of positions unlike my curling brushes because those prick my hand sometimes.

I do not blanket my little guy and he gets so fluffy! I spent at least a half hour with a curry and ended up sweating more than anything else. I could still pull chunks of hair off him. I went out to find another option and saw the fulminator. It worked for my dog so I bought it. Great investment! In ten minutes he was shed out and no sweating on my part! Woweee! I still can't believe how amazing it is, now to find something that makes mucking that easy....

I don't know if it performs any better than a shedding blade, but my sensitive-skinned horse certainly feels a difference. He loves it! Instead of raking his skin (as do the shedding blade and curry), this just grabs the hair that's ready to go and pulls it away in a sweep. No pressure is needed. So glad I found this on Amazon for HALF the price I've seen it at Tractor Supply or other stores!

I had never heard of this tool for the horses, so I thought I would try it and it is great!!!! I used it on my horses and they don't get fussy and move around, like they used to with the regular curry comb, this is much more gentle and they love the way it makes them feel. And of course getting the hair off is easier on them and on me.

This is the first furminator I have purchased. I'm very pleased. It was a bit expensive, but works very well. I have a lot of horses so I believe it will be well worth the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for a Polar Bear!, April 25, 2010
This review is from: FURminator equine deShedding tool- 5" edge (Misc.)
Our horse, no matter mild winter or rough winter always has a polar bear coat. As a matter of fact that is her nickname at the barn. She has one of the thickest coats I have ever seen on a horse, or a donkey for that matter. Usually takes us till June to get all of winter fur out. Used this today and it looked like we sheared a sheep. Works absolutely great!!!! I think even our polar bear is happy, since she's not dying in the hot fur anymore.
