5.0 out of 5 stars Percolator, please!
I bought the Farberware Classic Yosemite 8-Cup Stainless Steel Percolator after battling with several automatic-drip coffee makers. All I wanted was a hot cup of coffee! Now that I have given up on automatic-drip coffee makers and chosen to use a percolator, a relic from childhood, I enjoy a piping hot cup of coffee every day, as opposed to lukewarm brown water. This percolater is easy to use, cleanup is easy, my coffee tastes better, and the wonderful smell permeates my kitchen as it perks. Why automatic-drip coffee makers ever came to be is beyond me. Another example of the old adage, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Makes very good coffee. I start on high heat and turn it down when it begins to perk. It takes 7 minutes perking time. Delicious coffee.

Just a basic stove top percolator works just fine. Nothing fancy, but works. Authentic and utilitarian. Perfect for Mom. Oh yes, that's who this was for at Christmas. Mom loves it more than the small TV in the Kitchen. It was just what she wanted.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great coffee, poor design, June 27, 2010

First, this percolator makes great coffee, with much better taste than our drip makers ever gave us. However, this is a poorly designed percolator, resulting in several problems. First, when making 8 cups of coffee, I find that coffee spurts out of the spout while it is perking, making a mess on the stove. Turning heat down low enough so that it still perks without spilling over is a tricky process, not always successful. Second, when we wash the coffee pot, it is difficult to get the rinse water out of the pot. The widening at the base of the pot collects liquid, and it's hard to get it out without totally soaking a dish towel. No, it does not air dry well. In addition to the wide bottom which catches liquid behind a groove, the top of the pot, when turned upside down, is shaped such that it also catches water. The spout hole from within the pot is quite small (surprising that it doesn't prevent that spurting issue previously mentioned), and it's sometimes difficult to pour out water that has accumulated in the pot.

I've had other percolators (including Farberware Electric 15 years ago) which did not present any such design difficulties. If you're willing to put up with the hassles, it does make great coffee. But you might want to look for the great taste of perked coffee minus the cleaning difficulties this model presents.

4.0 out of 5 stars I love percolators, May 26, 2010

Perked coffee has a rounder, richer flavor than the drip coffee makers, which I enjoy. This pot is easy to use, delivers more aroma, and sounds good too. Percolator works well, but the design of the bottom of the pot makes it less easy to clean than a smooth wall at the bottom. I also wish it had internal markings for water level as my old pot did. Do not try to put in more than 8 cups. It would not be a happy experience.

I use this at my place in MI. Have an electric drip machine at my other home, but this one gives the best results. Through trial and error, after the water comes to a boil and starts percolating, I reduce the heat and let it perk for 7-8 minutes. More time is probably too much unless you really like dark stuff. Produces an excellent pot of coffee. Clean-up is easy.....just soap and water. Seems well-made for the very reasonable price. Bought two of these as Christmas gifts after my friends heaped praise on my old fashioned, homey percolator and the resulting coffee. Both of my friends love theirs. Cool retro gift for anyone who remembers the percolators of old.

I ordered this to have coffee during the winter made on our woodstove. I was pleasantly pleased to find it a good weight pot, cleans easily and makes a good cup of coffee. Just what I wanted.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not ready for prime time., April 26, 2011

I bought this pot after becoming dissatisfied with my old Black and Decker drip type which didn't get the water hot enough to brew the coffee. At that point in time I pulled out an old small electric peculator and the coffee improve using that pot. I needed a larger pot occasionally so I started shopping. I came across this Yosemite, read the reviews and with the rebate that has been pulled because it didn't exist, I bought it. I haven't quite gotten it to brew like I want it to yet. [am beginning to wonder if I will]. I didn't see my issues in the reviews so here it is. I think because it was made in China that is the reason for my dissatisfaction. They haven't come up to speed on how do things that they are not familiar with. For instance you cannot pour all of the liquid out of this pot. Why? The rim of the opening where the top fits is folded under as part of the manufacturing process. This produces liquid not being able to pour out. Does this matter? Soap in your coffee matters. Why not, you say, just pour it out of the spout where the coffee is pour from? Another Chinese manufacturing faux pas is why. The spout looks normal from the outside, but what they did on the inside produces the problem. Instead of making the hole in the side of the pot the size/shape of the spout they just made a round hole, not lined up with the bottom of the spout.[above]. That way you have coffee that goes above the spout when pouring. I am not going to return the pot but just use it as is although I will enlarge the spout hole enabling me to empty to pot of its contents. I think these Chinese are just making products without any regard to the functionality. I must mention Amazon's performance in this. I called Farberware and they said no rebate existed because of the price. I called Amazon and they refunded my purchase price and has since removed the rebate offer. Amazon is number one in customer satisfaction!!

This so far has been a quality product. It does a nice job. Cleaning is easy, with the exception I'm afraid I'll loose the small spring.
