We picked this up at the local bookstore and I LOVE it! The tree is so cute and my girls (6 & 8) loved coloring the shrinky dinks, making the tree, and then decorating it. I grumbled a little about the price but it was definitely worth it. I could see it being a great Thanksgiving project for grandparents and grandkids while the turkey cooks. We all (3 adults included) enjoyed coloring the shrinky dinks. I did use our own colored pencils because the selection in the box is limited (no skin color!). After all these years, shrinky dinks are still cool to watch in the oven:-)

I bought this for a holiday project night with my 5 Grandkids ranging in age from 2 to 11. Everyone shared the pencils and had fun coloring the SD's and then peeking thru the oven window watching them shrink. The older ones helped the younger children cutting them out. Very nice concept with enough SD's for all and little bead** ornaments. (**these are small enough to be a choke hazard)

The only knock I would give this is the tree -- it is only flimsy pipe cleaners. Little hands need a sturdier tree. As written earlier I would also recommend a 10"-12" artificial tree from somewhere else.

Terrific fun! You make the tree with glittery silver pipe-cleaners, then decorate with shrinky dinks and beads. My 3 year old loved decorating the plastic and watching it shrink, and I had lots of fun with the ones that she decided I was allowed to do. Am trying to order more, but unavalible for this year...

These shrinky dinks are large enough for little ones (5yrs+) to color but shrink to teeny, tiny ornaments that fit the very small pipe cleaner tree. It's a happy, tacky activity to share. It sits upon the kids' little table on a blue plate (pond) with cotton & glitter added (for snow). It was smaller than expected and ornaments are way too small to place on traditional tree. We had fun though.

I've bought and used this product as well as many sets of shrinky dink plastic. This one is nice as there are pictures preprinted on the plastic; they're ready to color (as opposed to having to tediously trace your own image). The kit contains materials to make a little "tree"; it's nothing more than silver pipe cleaners twisted around a central dowel. You might be better off with a very small fake tree from the craft store, but the finished ornaments (1/2"-1") are scaled perfectly for the little tree you can build.

Unlike another reviewer, I did not have problems with shrinking the plastic from this kit or any other of the kits I've owned, even after forgetting a trayfull of shrinkydinks and leaving them in the oven way too long. My only shrinky dink caveats are to use the plainest, thinest, cheapest pan you've got. Those fancy stoneware pans might cook great brownies but they take forever to heat up so aren't such a good S-D choice. And I've found that it's best to let the S-Ds cool on their pan a bit before taking them out. They're just a smidge flexible straight from the oven but cool and harden quickly so if you pull it off your pan right away you'll warp it and then it will harden like that.

Shrinky Dinks are awesome! Not only do they look remarkable as I walk around work showing my child's shrunken creation around my neck but they also look great when my child sticks them to our walls. These are great for earnings as you attend your upcoming holiday parties to show off to all your friends of what your child was able to make in the oven. The best part about this project is that my 5 year old daughter can operate the oven on her own now. Instead of coming home to make dinner, my 5 year old has already made it which allows me to relax and color in more shrinky dinks to put in the oven. Now all I need to do is teach my daughter how to cook...... Thanks Shrinky Dinks!

This is the coolest little Shrinky Dink set! Everything you need to make a cool shrinky dink Christmas tree is here! You build everything - the tree, color the shrinky dinks, put the hooks on, and put stars on the tree - everything is included. This is so worth the money - provides a good weekend of crafting with your favorite 8- to 12-year-old. And the tree will last a lot longer than a crusty old gingerbread house. Bring it out year after year for a nice side table decoration. This child of the 70s loves it!

As for the person who rated this a 1 star and said they catch on fire. Yes, they do if you leave them in the oven too long. Watch them shrink - they only take 1-2 minutes, maximum!!! After that, shrinky dinks will start to turn brown and then burn and eventually catch on fire. Don't walk away form them - put the oven light on and watch them shrink - it's half the fun!

I put this set on my daughter's Christmas wishlist and my mom purchased it for her and gave it to her the night before Thanksgiving. To all of our amazement it provide a few hours of entertainment for 4 generations of family staying at my mom's that night. My grandmother, daughter, and sister-it-law colored in the pictures. (The pencils suck in terms of ease of use because it was super hard to distinguish the colors, especially for my grandmother, because only the tip was a different color, all the pencil bodies were the same tan color. But I hardly consider this a flaw. If we had been at my house, we would have used our own colored pencils.) I cut the shrinky dinks out, my daughter punched holes (with provided hole punch) and my mom helped her put them in the toaster oven. Everyone huddled around and oowed and aahhed as the shriveled up and then laid down flat. My 35 year old police officer brother took it upon himself to construct the tree, which was probably the hardest part, but he had a blast. Then we all decorated the tree together and marveled over the ornaments we created. Many, many photos were taken and we will proudly display the tree every year.

We liked this project so much that I am going to order the valentine's day tree for my daughter and her friends to do at her birthday sleepover. I highly recommend.

Although I gave this item as a gift, it is very enjoyable for the kids as they can do it with mom/dad and have fun with it as well. This item was not found in local stores so having a different variety to make was very fun too.

I wasn't sure how this was going to turn out at first, but once everything was put together and displayed on the tree, it really was quite cute. My 6 yr old daughter had a lot of fun and was eager to display it in her room.

The directions were fairly easy to follow and the tree was easy to put together. I wish there were more of a variety of colored pencils included, but I think that for all of the Shrinky Dink projects.

Overall I am satisfied with this project and look forward to purchasing similar ones in the future.
