The leads for these pencils are readily available from on line sources. It is the unique 1.4mm lead that makes this such a great pencil. The lead wont break, lasts forever and wont tear through thin paper. Perfect for newspaper crossword puzzles.

5.0 out of 5 stars Once you've tried one of these, you will never want another pencil, March 31, 2009
The Faber Castell E-motion pencil is a little pricy, but worth it. I first encountered it in Germany about ten years ago and have been a fan ever since. The first one had a plastic (yellow) barrel and the rest have been maple wood. But ultimately the looks don't matter that much, it is the action that matters. I like the 1.4mm lead. It never ever breaks and is fine for doing a little math now and then or underlining a paper or making marginal notes. Most of my writing is on the computer but the rewriting is often done with this fine pencil. I feel totally naked without out mine and recommend them without reservation.

4.0 out of 5 stars Try it first before buying, April 7, 2011

I like my pencil. The warm feel of wood - The strong, nearly break-free lead - The cool shape and design, all work for me. It has a well designed pocket clip. You can press on the top to flex it open so it slips in your pocket more easily. All in all, it's beautiful thing. (Keep you hands on it, don't lay it down during a meeting or it could walk home with someone else - it's that good looking ;-) )

My only caution - the shape, while really cool and is what drew me to the pencil in the first place (pun intended), my wife can't / won't use it. The shape of the barrel just doesn't work for her fingers. I bought it for her to do Sunday Times Crosswords and she demurred - I had to buy her another Faber-Castell that has a straight wooden barrel and a dual pen / pencil that works better for her smaller hands and fingers.

Try it before you buy it or be prepared to send it back if you don't find the grip and shape comfortable.
