Faber castell has recently introduced gelatos, and are marketing them to artists and paper crafters. They bundle four of them for $10 - this is exactly the same product, but marketed to kids, I guess.

If you like watercolor pencils or crayons, you will love these, and they are different. The colors are vibrant, and the application is creamy. They react wonderfully with water, and blend easily. You can color them on wetted stamps and stamp, use them with stencils, direct to paper, or use them with a brush. If you like water colors, give them a try. The metallic gel sticks are also fabulous.

These are also known as "Gelato" art sticks, which are manufactured by Faber Castell and marketed towards the art/crafts enthusiast. These are the same exact item, just packaged (and priced!) for kids and parents. You get the entire variety of color in this particular kit, which is a great great value.

These Gel Sticks are basically a semi-solid paint stick that rolls up and down. Basically it's like a glue stick (same consistency) but it's not glue- it's a semi-translucent paint.

I love these crayons- they are great to use with stamps (apply them directly to stamps and moisten with a spritz of water) and also great to rub straight on a palette with a dab of water to make a very quick paint. I use them for crafting and mixed media work and I got my daughter (who is 6) a set for her own art/crafts use. Both of us use them for different things, but we both REALLY love them and reach for them often.

Bought these thinking that the were Gelatos...not so. I didn't find this out until viewing a YouTube video that was evaluating these. A Faber Castell rep contacted the lady that did the video and thanked her for the demo, but explained that these sticks were meant for kids, while the 'real' Gelatos are geared for adults (at a much more 'adult' price, I might add). So, the video reviewer bought a set of 4 of the Gelatos and filmed a comparison test between the gel sticks, and the Gelatos. You can see her commentary at the link I've shared here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgqvaFbJIM4

I bought these gel sticks as part of a Christmas gift for my 4-year old son thinking that they'd get a lot of use, but knowing that they wouldn't be the most exciting thing under the tree. I figured they'd go in a cupboard until a "rainy day." I was wrong! He absolutely loves them and uses them pretty much every day. In fact, I'm going to have to get more soon, as he's already run through his favorite colors. One warning, though: If you're purchasing for a child, these can get messy very quickly. Easily cleaned, but clean up is definitely required at the end of an art session with these.

Gelatos and Gel Sticks are actually two different products! They are manufactured by the same company but the formulation is different. Unlike Gel Sticks, Gelatos are designed to be crafter friendly- they are acid-free, lightfast, and permanent. Gelatos are also available in more colors, so crafters have a larger range to choose from.

I like the FaberCastell brand, and these are good quality for crafters! They blend easily and can be used wet or dry, be sure to get the metallic set too. You can use these with water in a mister, but I don't know if it can hurt your eyes so wear glasses and spray away from you. I mix the color I want by shaving off a little from the stick and add water ,mix until dissolved and put in Ranger Mini misters. If you get the metallics, they are shimmery!

I already have some gelatos that I got at rubber stamp show, and wondered if these would be the similar in quality. I cannot tell the difference at all between gelatos and these gel sticks. These make it possible for me to have various colors in an affordable way.

These gel sticks are awesome! They are gelato's I have used both gelato's and gel sticks and to be totally honest I like the gel sticks better they have a lighter smoother spread. In a side by side test you can not tell the difference. Gel Sticks just have the Faber-Castell logo on the side, Gelato's have both the FC and Gelato's logo, Gelato's have the color printed on the top of the stick. gel sticks don't. The only downside to gel sticks is they don't have as many colors as gelato's. Gel sticks only have the primary colors and metalics. Gelato's has (I believe) 28 colors + metallics. Seventeen dollars for 18 colors -vs- between fifty and one hundred for gelatos. No contest in my book.
