My Art Deco favorite - a great pen, April 7, 2011
This review is from: Faber Castell Mondoro Precious Resin Ballpoint Pen (Office Product)
I love Art Deco. But "real" Art Deco items from the period are either way too expensive or not useful as daily-use products. Often, they are both. That's why I was attracted to this pen. It looks like it's right out of the 1930's but it's a wonderful, modern writing implement.
I like the glossy finish that, magically, also has a great grippy feel in my hand. And it has an added benefit, the multi-sided shape is very comfortable to hold and use.
It comes with a "Parker" style refill so getting a replacement is easy and relatively cheap. (Is that important? Did you ever price a Mont Blanc refill?) And while I mention "Parker" refills, the original Faber-Castell refill is good one and worth seeking out the brand when the time arises.
You twist the chrome top to deploy the point and I think it has a very nice, German techno feel to it. Plus, it doesn't click loudly like a Parker Jotter so you are less likely to tick off those around you as you fiddle with it at work.
Some other benefits - that cool shape means that it won't roll off your desk. It has a good clip and fits nicely in my pocket. And the price, while high compared to a throw away, bank pen, it's properly priced (again, in my pen-geek opinion) and represents good value. For you non-pen-geeks, this could be YOUR one and only "good" pen. It's not showy like some (you know which brand I'm hinting at) but deep down, you will know that you have a winner in your pocket.
