Faberge: The Forbes Collection,
By Alexander Caldwell (Maurice, LA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Faberge: The Forbes Collection (Hardcover)
From cover to cover this is the most beautiful illustrated tabletop book on the works of Peter Carl Faberge' I have ever seen. The color plates of the Imperial Eggs and other objets' show detail as good or better than viewing the originals. The narrative of the acquisition of this marvelous collection is fascinating reading. This book is a must have for any serious student of the worlds most famous artist/jeweler-Peter Carl Faberge'.

Fabulous Faberge,
By A Customer
This review is from: Faberge: The Forbes Collection (Hardcover)
This has to be one of the finest titles covering a fabulous collection of some of the greatest Russian Objets d'art of the turn of the century. It would be difficult to surpass the photographic rendition of some of the worlds finest objects, created with timeless skill and attention to detail. All of which is admirably covered in this book. Any lover of fine art at its finest, or even the inquisitive browser, will find this book a treasure second only to owning one of the superb objects displayed between the endpapers.

Now this may be one of my favorite books of all time! So truly elegant, with photos that jump off the page. Truly the BEST book on Faberge, even better than the Russian ones.

This review is from: Faberge: The Forbes Collection (Hardcover)
The Forbes collection has full colour quality images and is a must to any faberge enthusiast. This book concisely outlines in detail the history of the marvellous jewels that faberge created for the czars (and royal family) of Russia. This book is a gem and a need for all enthusiasts including myself.

Good content, overproduced format,
By
This review is from: Faberge: The Forbes Collection (Hardcover)
The content of this book is great, especially given that the majority of this collection is no longer in the US. The book format, however, is overproduced. Some illustrations are on full page slick paper, while others are tipped in on bond paper. All the text is on bond. The cover is cloth, with title and decorations in a silver colored metal (applied as a powder). The book, purchased from a vendor through Amazon, was listed as new, although the fragile cover had some damage, particularly metal flaking off, and the edge of the pages (also silver colored metal) showed ware. Some of the tipped in illustrations had lost contact points, although none were completely loose. Fortunatly, most art book publishers avoid this level overproduction, leading to such fragility. Again, the content is quite useful and informative.
