Missing the most needed feature...,
By J.S. Knapp "ViperMan" (Hagerstown, MD) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fable II Signature Series Guide (Paperback)
I've bought a lot of game guides. I was glad to see that this book is well-printed. I've had a lot of game guides which pages so badly blurred they're illegible. Not a problem here.
However, the one feature I keep picking up this book for is the one feature it's missing. Maps. In my review of the game I mentioned the poor quality of the mapping. The book doesn't help. It gives you the hidden stuff, which is nice, but it doesn't give you the "meat-and-potatoes" of the game, such as the stores, the houses, the things you can buy... The book does detail the quests pretty clearly. So if you have no clue on how to follow a dotted line on the screen to your various objectives, then I guess this book will help you. If you're shooting for 100% completion then you'll really benefit from this book. Unfortunately I think the game will bore you before you reach that point, and it definitely won't help you in the day-to-day playing of the game.

Disappointed,

I purchased this item a few days ago as the game was actually released. I am pretty disappointed with this guide. It does show you where the dig spots, silver keys, demon doors, and treasure chests are located, but I was really hoping for better coverage for the towns.
As many of you who have played the game know, the mapping system is pretty poor. What I was really looking for was a map of each town that showed where everything is located. Specifically I wanted a graphical map, with the name of each store located on the map. This guide does not have that. It does list the stores in a table that are in each town but it doesn't tell you where they are. There are some good tips, but it leaves a lot up to mystery, I'm sure in the spirit of discovering things for yourself. For example, basic things like how do you have a child in the game? It does not tell you that you need to get a certain expression, or where to get the expression from. It does tell you that you can have children but doesn't tell you how. Similarly, there are all these tricks you can teach your dog but there is no section on where to get all of these. On this note, it talks about "dive" spots to find treasure underwater, but doesn't tell you how to actually dive. I still haven't figured that out. Another problem is the layout of the book. If you are wanting to go through and find all of the demon doors, you have to go town by town looking if the book mentions a door or not, there is no demon door section. It would be nice to have a separate section for this so you could perhaps check them off. Similarly no silver key section, etc. I think the guide has some good things, but is really disappointing to me. I have just found it really hard to navigate the book, and found vital information missing that I end up having to search the internet for. I suggest saving your money and just reading FAQ's on the internet for your game questions.

I want my money back,
This review is from: Fable II Signature Series Guide (Paperback)
Well first of all as far the the story missions go this guide is pointless there is always a trail telling you where to go and the info you do get you cannot benefit from. And where they should be helping they do not. For example in the beginning of the game there are certain tasks you can complete good or evil that will have effects when you become an adult in the game. The guide doesn't tell you what will happen I had to look online for that.
However I did not buy the guide for the story missions I bought it to help collect the randome weapons and items throughout Fable 2's world. But it fails even worse in this category. This is by far the worst guide I have ever purchased. If you are looking for a guide that shows all the locations of items in the game world look elsewhere. This guide attempts to show where to go but is inaccurate for the majority of the time. Also the items you pick up dont match with the ones in the book so you don't know if you opened the correct chest for example because not only is the location off but the items in the book dont even match half the chests in the area. I have also been to areas where they have completley left out items that I happened to find by accident for example the silver key found in bowerstone market behind the pub. And there are many others I cannot find due to this poor guide. Bottom line SAVE YOUR MONEY. Don't buy this trash it is a complete waste of money and I want my money back. If I had the option to give this guide a -5 I would have.

decent info on quests, but maps are not accurate,

This review is from: Fable II Signature Series Guide (Paperback)
The book contains good information on the quests - good vs evil resolution. It also details all the skills, enemies, items, and weapons.
However, it doesn't list where each item/weapon can be found or bought. The maps are also somewhat inaccurate. The illustration doesn't always match the map screen in the game. It also gets wrong the number of keys and gargoyles found in each zone; the region screen in the game lists more than what is shown in the guide book. Overall, a decent resource if you want to know what consequence your actions will have, but you will need to look elsewhere if you're looking to find every item available. 11/5/08 - Edited to Add: The guide may not be wrong in the counts of keys and gargoyles. Some regions have "dungeons". In the game, when you enter a "dungeon", the map page shows the region and therefore the key/gargoyle counts are the combined total for the region and "dungeon". The guide book keeps a separate page for each of these "dungeons". The key/gargoyle counts are then divided amongst the pages for the region and its "dungeons". The description of the dungeons does not always indicate which region it belongs to because the map section of the guidebook merely lists every region and "dungeon" in alphabetical order.

If you are a type of person who likes to know where everything is so you can experience the whole game, buy this guide. It really goes over everything you need: fable characters, weapons, items, how to play every pub game, how to perform jobs for pay, detailed descriptions of enemies, and a walk through to every mission. Plus throughout the guid it provides you with many pointers to help you make the game more fun. For example, if you want to be evil when you grow up, make sure you give the warrants to the bad guy at the first of the game and not to the guard. By giving the warrants to the bad guy, later in life that town becomes lawless and you have free will there to commit crimes. That's just one example! By the way, don't waste your money on the limited Edition strategy manual. It is a waste of money. You have everything you need in this one.

Not worth it.,

This guide adds very little value to fable 2. The few times I did consult the guide while playing I was dissapointed. After completing the game I went through the guide to see what I missed and found that there is such minimal detail in the guide for each area/quest that the guide was no help. If you get stuck or want to find all the secrets, search google.

Couldve Been Better,

I got disappointed that there was no information about the DLCs. there was no guide for the knothole island and the see the future events. i had to use the internet to see if i got everything including dig/dive spots, dyes, clothes, weapons, and whatnots.
and just like my other brady game brand of guidebooks, its not highly accurate, especially when it comes to dig and dive spots and chests. the items are almost always different than what's written. the brady games need to learn to go over every bit of facts before placing them into the books and publishing them. im surprised they havent been sued from this point. and lastly the maps from the guidebook and game unfortunately dont completely match. i easily get lost with and without the guidebook maps. and another unfortunate problem is that they tend to miss a few detailed locations of certain chests. they have missed a chest located in one of the houses up the stairs ((sorry dont remember which one ^^; )) of bowerstone market. they need to also be a little more specific on locations instead of just "located on the second floor of a house" like....which house is it talking about? and the certain mysteries that were never explained..like the certain strange black doors that get highlighted when you go near but no matter what you do, they never open. if there's anything else i missed i apologize. my tired brain came up with whatever it can lol so the Brady Games need to stop being so lazy and put much more effort into their strategy guides to the point where no player would even bother to look up "anything" in the internet. yes they want to be THAT SATISFIED getting to the point where i would rewrite the whole book myself. however the pricing on this book was great. i wouldnt buy it if it were any more pricier than that, for it wouldnt be worth having quarter amount of this book's information being inaccurate for an unreasonable amount of money.

The Fable 2 strategy guide from Bradygames is awesome. I love the layout and design. It is chock full of beautiful artwork and photos. It's very colorful and makes for more enjoyable reading. There is concept art scattered throughout the book. Each page is individually numbered, but a quicker way to navigate the guide is to familiarize yourself with the background color of the pages. For example, light blue represents the Albion Atlas, which has detailed maps (each location is listed alphabetically). Other sections include Weapons of Yore, Items and Collectibles, and Pub Games, Jobs, and More. The quest walkthrough is detailed and pretty much tells you everything you need to know to be successful. It also gives you the "evil alternative" for most tasks if you so desire. This is a very nice guide (one of the best I've seen).
