These "fables for the child-hearted" by a Catholic priest/story-teller range from the two-sentence "Thoughts" to full-scale narrative tales. All deal in subtle, original ways with gospel themessometimes with an explicitly stated moral that jolts the reader into suddenly reseeing the text, other times with a teasingly open-ended conclusion. Either way, images work like metaphysical conceits, embodying familiar insights in surprising new guises to delight the imagination and stimulate fresh understanding. EC
