5.0 out of 5 stars Surprise... Digweed delivers again...
Several months ago, when my reactionary mind was attempting to process the fact that "progressive house" was slowly but surely moving away from the dark, tribal inflected sounds of the "new millenium", I purchased Sander Kleinenberg's "This is Everybody II" and began to see things from a dramatically different perspective. Hey, it's not referred to as "progressive house"...

John Digweed, one of the biggest pioneers of dance music as we know it has finally released a new dj-mix compilation. However, after a few listens, I want to know, "What Happened?" The main problem I see with this mix is that it doesn't flow. Digweed weaves together a bunch of different house genres that just don't flow together. We have minimal techno, glitchy house,...

Hey, it's not referred to as "progressive house" for nothing...

If the music is to "move forward", break barriers and truly take the sound to new heights who better than Digweed to lead the way? And break down those barriers he does indeed with the gritty, tech-house soundscapes found on Fabric 20.

Digweed is (as usual) on form delivering a dubbed up, simmering, cerebral mix which encompasses multiple genres, tempos and atmospheres while never missing a beat. The art of the mix itself is PURE Digweed that we have come to know and love over the years. The tracks are fresh, the sounds challenging and the vibe deep and tripped out.

Highlights include the sax-infused grooves of DJ Rasoul's "True Science", Josh Wink's dirty electro rerub of Infusion's "Better World" and the driving, yet dreamy Goldtrix interpretation of Matrix & Danny J's "Vertigo." Abandon your ideas of what progressive house is (or rather - was) and let Digweed demonstrate what the sound of tommorow is all about.

In essence, this mix is Digweed's take on the sound and direction of the future of post-modern electronic house music. The track selection is months ahead of the game and the subsequent mix is beyond reproach. It's a talent he has mastered again and again for the last 15 years and has never failed to disappoint.

Exactly my sentiments. The progressive sound IS changing. Digweed, like any truly great artist, is pushing the music forward and it would be beneath him to sound like he did 5 yrs ago. Sure I've listened to 'Communicate' (Disk 2) until my ears bled, but great artists move on, the sound evolves.

I've been lucky to see Sasha at Crobar this last February and March, and it's been sick: hours of relentless deep, electro-influenced, melodic, mind-twisting soundscapes. When I picked up Fabric20, it was the same TYPE of sound that's been going on at Crobar those nights. Still, live it's 10X better, but you can tell they're pushing the music forward in similar directions. Fabric20 is a great representation of where these guys are going.

5.0 out of 5 stars Digweed adds his magical touch to the Fabric series, March 9, 2005
This review is from: Fabric 20 (Audio CD)
John Digweed is an amazing dj with a list of mix compilations and production work a mile long. This newest effort from Mr.Digweed, Fabric 20, is just another reason why he is so good. At first listen it might seem a little more "techy" or "housy", compared to his more progressive sound, but it's a warm welcome. The disc opens with a beatless 16b mix of Pete Moss's "Strive to Live" and blends nicely with Adam Johnson's "Traber". By mid-disc Digweed is rocking some great house music with tracks such as The Glass " Won't Bother Me", Martin Solveig's "Rocking Music", and Slam's "Lie to Me". The end of the disc dosen't let up one bit either as Digweed drops Infusion's "Better World" and Superpitcher's "Happiness". The final track of Fabric 20, Matrix & Danny J's "Vertigo", is the perfect track to end the mix on. A feel-good house track that fits nicely at the end of the night. Cheers to Digweed for another great mix cd!

5.0 out of 5 stars Arguably Digweed's best work., May 12, 2005
This review is from: Fabric 20 (Audio CD)
This CD answers right back to Sasha's most impressive solo album Involver, innovating new styles for himself as Sasha did, but in totally different directions. I have never heard Digweed be so electronical, it's very acid synth in a lot of places and much less dark than most of Digweed. There is also more female singing and lyrics compared to his previous productions, and while I am usually not a fan of actual song type electronica, I love every second of this album. My choice for top track is Venom, an amazing piece of synth mastery by one of the best DJs in the world, I recommend this CD for anyone who loves good music, it's as good or better than his Hong Kong GU set, and pure innovation for the new age.

We have minimal techno, glitchy house, dark electro, some progressive/trancey house. I wasn't expecting another Global Underground: Los Angeles, but I was expecting something more. I recently saw Digweed in New Orleans, and I left that set with the same feeling. Digweed is changing his sound--I don't blame him, and its just going to be a matter of time until he falls into place with it. This isn't a horrible CD by any means, but it definately wasn't worth the 20 dollars I spent on it.

3.0 out of 5 stars not quite, March 17, 2005

well i really like most of the mixes from digweed that i've heard, in particular (of course) the norther exposure series and he's done some very decent global undergrounds indeed. Bedrock is also very decent. of course when i found out digweed was releasing a new mix, i pretty much went out and bought it straight away. whilst i wasn't really dissapointed, i wasn't really impressed either. the cd starts out very promising, and ends very well but it's the main part of the cd, the middle, which seems somewhat lacking. some of the tracks are repetitive, some are repetitive and annoying. many of the tracks are just a repetitive beat with a few sounds thrown in, and an annoying vocal or something. there are times during this cd when you may ask yourself "what was the producer of this track THINKING?" but yeah it's not all bad. if you like Digweed perhaps you should chek it out...but I won't recommend it to anyone.

I ordered the cd as soon as it came out and was lucky enough to get it before I was flying out to the winter music conference in Miami. So one of the first things I noticed after the conference was that many of the tracks were featured around in the clubs by differnt Djs (Sander Klienenberg being one of them). Progressive all the way, with that techy feel that everyone mentioned. That was the theme of the conference for Progressive House Djs. First week back from the conference I got a real treat of enjoying Sasha & John Digweed spinning together for his record release party in Crobar NY. Digweed Rocked the house along Sasha and didn't shy away from spinning the tracks straight from the album. He is definately leading the way with the album to show where progressive sound is moving (along with the likes of Sander Klienenberg and Hernan Cattaneo). In comparison to other progressive mixes of Sander, Hernan, Palash; Fabric stands out with the dirtiest techiest feel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost Flawless, September 1, 2005

If you have ever seen Digweed live lately then you would know the route he's been taking. I think this is an unbelievable mix. The way Diggers can drop the most random tracks one after another is like no other. The first time I listened I was not sure what to expect, but after listening to it for a couple of times I think it is absolutely genius. The only reason why I did not give it 5 stars is because I dont believe a "perfect" mix exists. Highly, highly recommended.
