Minimal Heaven,

This review is from: Fabric 37 (Ocrd) (Audio CD)
I'll keep it simple on this one:
if you fancy minimal, go buy this one - it's flawlessly mixed, good tracks and really consistent. if not... skip it and never think about this matter again;

I would just get Fabric 38 instead.,

This review is from: Fabric 37 (Ocrd) (Audio CD)
This mix came out 3 months prior to Fabric 38 in the UK, but strangely enough, it arrives in the US a mere week before, what is in my opinion, the far superior mix by M.A.N.D.Y. Bad move, as pitting the two side by side, it's clear that 38 is the more exciting mix, with a smoother flow, and lots more luscious melodies and soundscapes. They both feature mostly instrumental and similar sounding tech house and minimal, with this one featuring a few more vocals. The problem with Fabric 37 is the flow of the mix, and the tracks themselves. They play out with few exciting twists, and most are just run of the mill minimal house, muddling along from start to finish. Don't get me wrong, there are some great tracks on here, such as the otherworldly Consequence by DJ Swap, it's just I don't care for the mix overall as a whole.
While Bug's Poker Flat label has always remained consistent, I've been somewhat disappointed with his Dessous label's last two CD releases, Good Idea and Dessous' Best Kept Secrets. Phonique's bonus mix was decent, but most of his artist tracks fell short. The Best Kept Secrets 2 disc set featured only a couple of decent tracks, but mostly dull ones on the unmixed disc, and a rather flat DJ mix from the usually reliable Vincenzo. Sadly, 3 rather weak Dessous tracks fall into the latter portion of this mix, and really doesn't help it find it's peak. It really isn't any improvement over his lukewarm Fuse Presents mix, which I'd still opt for over this one. It was a little more varied, as it infused older techno tracks with new. It's a no brainer for me: Fabric 38 is the one I recommend getting over this mix. Also, Fabric 31 is still a high point in the latest tech portion of the Fabric series.
