M.A.N.D.Y. are Patrick Bodmer & Philipp Jung and along with Booka Shade (Walter Merziger, Arno Kammermeier & Peter Hayo) and DJ T (Thomas Koch) cofounders of Get Physical Records, DJ Magazine's "Label of the Year" for 2005 and in 2006 was considered to "increasingly resemble early Warp in its elevation of club dynamics to a steely artform" (Pitchfork).

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly subtle, February 15, 2008
This review is from: Fabric 38 (Audio CD)
This compilation is different from their At the Controls effort, so those looking for a continuation of that great compilation may be disappointed. I really enjoyed At the Controls, but felt that it was more a collection of standout tracks loosely mixed together, and was, at times, a bit disjointed. Fabric 38, on the other hand, is a collection of subtle tracks that are mixed together very well. This is one of my favorite of the recent Fabric releases, along with Tiefschwarz, Marco Carola, and Audion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easily one of the best CD's ever, May 24, 2008

I'm not a big MANDY fan, I think they get a little too experimental at times with tracks such as "Bananas to the Beat" which sometimes can throw a whole CD off. But in this case I think they completely hit the ball out of the ballpark. Definitely the best Fabric CD out there, and that's saying a lot because Fabric releases generally high quality stuff.

This is a consistently efficient minimal and tech house mix by M.A.N.D.Y. One needs to only gaze at the tracklisting to quickly notice how many of the major players in the minimal and techno scene are on tap: Booka Shade, Gui Boratto, Dubfire, DJ Yello, Toni Rios, Robag Whrume, and Lopazz. Even not hearing any of their tracks featured on here, it's almost a sure fire sign that the mix is going to be a hit. This theory is sound, because after playing this mix, there isn't a dull track in sight, with track after track of quality and classy techscapes. M.A.N.D.Y. has consistently shown they have an extreme talent for choosing interesting and top notch tracklists for their mixes, as evidenced by their previous CD mix releases, and even on a freebie CD mix that came with Mixmag magazine.

If it's the current best of tech house you're after, it's offered up here in one tidy little place. Just as Marco Carola's Fabric 31 kicked off 2007 with a stunning mix of this musical genre, M.A.N.D.Y.'s here to lead is into '08. If you read my review of Fabric 37 you'll notice how I mention that it was a bad move for Fabric to release 37 and 38 within a week of each other here in the US, because it just shows how much stronger this mix really is. If we had the 3 months they UK had between mixes, we may have been able to digest Steve Bug's a little more, and it's shortcomings wouldn't have felt as such; but with M.A.N.D.Y.'s stunning mix coming up right on it's heels, I see no need to spring for both mixes. Just go right to this one. Also, as of right now, this one is a few dollars cheaper -- as if there already weren't enough reasons ...
