One of the Best Drum and Bass Mixes Ever,
By LHB (Dallas, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fabric Live 13 (Audio CD)
DJ Majik's Fabric set is warped, high-energy from start to finish, but in terms of BPM's, it's not all that fast. It is, however, one of the very best put together DnB dance mixes I've ever heard (Grooverider's Fabriclive set being the other). Unbelievably perfect for dancing or driving at very high speeds. The combination of Twisted Individual's amazing "Bandwagon Blues" and J Majik's "Feel the Music" to end the set is the most perfect closing to a dance mix I've ever heard. If you only own one Drum and Bass album, this should probably be it.

This is why J Majik has his own label...,

And its called "Infared" for those who don't know. Interestingly enough, I found this in the used electonica bin at my local record store. As I didn't have any of the "Fabric" mixes, I figured its definately worth my cash. As Fabric is one of the largest Drum N' Bass clubs in London, it has also been around a long time and has alot of history...And boy, does J Majik tear this mix apart! The beginning High Hopes mix with the Tali vocals send this mix into high gear. From there, its typical rollers and liquid tracks, until the mix gets to "Capoeira", which, I must say is an amazing track. At that point, you know its about the get ugly... Then, at the Peshay "Jammin" track mix into the Fresh remix of Cuban Links, its all OVER! The next tracks, until the end of the CD make the entire mix. I actually went and ordered the Fresh remix of Cuban Links THE DAY I HEARD IT. Almost worth getting the CD just for that song. The John B remix of "Pressure" is just as ill...that is, if you like your tracks hard, rough, and built with enough bass to kill a small amount of braincells. Bottom Line: Most accurate portrayl of where the liquid sound was in 2003, with a few amen and rollers for flavor. Great mix!

Not bad, but not spectacular.,

OK, so I read on here that some thought this was the best FabricLive mix, drum-and-bass-wise... while J Majik is a legend of the scene, still an awesome producer, and a dancefloor-conscious DJ, I wouldn't go so far as to say this mix is awesome... because it isn't. Of course, that's just my opinion. I think the High Contrast and Marcus Intalex FabricLive CDs are far better, not only in the selection, but the presentation of the tracks. No disrespect to Jamie at all, because it's a very high energy selection, and if that's your thing, great. You'll absolutely love this CD. Drum and bass has also made progress since the timing of this recording. All in all, a good CD for those who can appreciate drum and bass, but this wouldn't be a CD I would use to introduce someone to drum and bass. 'Nuff said.
