Editorial Reviews

Brighton based "Nu Skool Breaks" kingpin Adam Freeland returns in rare form to bless his fans worldwide with an amazing set on Fabric Recordings! A quick peek at the track listing reveals Freeland is as envelope pushing as ever; fusing his trademark floor filling breakbeat sound with a wide range of sounds from the rock, electro, and Hip Hop worlds!

A seminal figure in the evolution of the breakbeat sound, Adam’s first outings include the highly lauded Coastal Breaks series and the hit track "Hip Hop Phenomenon" – quickly gaining him the reputation as a rising star. His remixing credits include The Orb, Headrillaz, Orbital, Deejay Punk Roc, and Dylan Rhymes.

Fast forward 5 years and we find Adam with a prepetually growing fan base on both sides of "the pond" as Adam has toured America over 45 times! Fabric Live 16 sees Adam proving his mettle. Believe the hype!

4.0 out of 5 stars Adam Freeland -- He Shoots! He Scores!, March 16, 2005
This review is from: Fabric Live 16 (Audio CD)
D ?C?"Coastal Breaks" or "Tectonics" revisited. But Adam Freeland's contribution to the Fabriclive stable breaks fresh, bold new frontiers in this DJ's musical direction, while retaining his signature taut mixing with a penchant for lush, dance-friendly breakbeats.

I love the dynamic, swirling urban soundscapes evoked by the first 8 tracks, seamlessly woven together with a sense of urgency. The beats are phat; the basslines captivating. With tracks like the Evil Nine's "Crooked", there is a feeling of danger lurking beneath dark humour.

Then, after building things up, Freeland breaks them all down again. The second half of the mix features some truly wigged-out, trippy sounds in "Steamulation" and "Sqsh", before we go ramraiding again with anthems from UNKLE and Telemen. Freeland then brings things to a head with LFO's "Freak", an ol'skool classic from Warp I haven't heard for so long, and never before in such a context.

This is decidedly British and is as rewarding an aural experience as one can hope for.

My biggest regret, alas, is that Fabriclive and Fabric do not have the same DJs featured twice in their compilations.

4.0 out of 5 stars gets me going in the morning!, November 18, 2004
This review is from: Fabric Live 16 (Audio CD)
as a fan of a variety of albums off the fabric series, including doc martin, james lavelle, and slam, i instantly purchased the adam freeland disc. working a 8:30 to 5 job i need a quick pick me up in the morning to go with my caffiene and this cd does it for me. its non-stop, constant, and far from boring. though i must say i jump half way through the cd usually because the first couple of tracks kinda drag but are still good. highlights are bassbin twins and adam freelands own tracks. having bought both the tectonics and on tour cds i would say this one is the best with tectonics coming in a close second.
