Book Description

June 1, 2010
This intriguing book of fabrics and quilts will inspire quiltmakers of any skill level. Here she describes how she lets fabrics speak to her, inspiring quilts filled with color, texture, and pattern. The book is divided into five sections. In the first, she discusses creativity and how we can become more creative. Then, in ""Basics,"" Roberta discusses color, value, fabric pattern, design principles, and tools. ""Process"" deals with all the ways we can use our fabric creatively to build our quilts. The ""Gallery"" section is a feast for the eyes with quilts from Roberta and her students. Finally, ""Techniques"" includes more creative ways to approach sewing. Note: This digital file contains patterns that may not print true to size and may require sizing adjustments (inchmarks are included on patterns for reference).

4.0 out of 5 stars Using a great fabric to inspire a quilt, May 4, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Fabric Makes the Quilt (Paperback)
This is a wonderful book that helps you become more creative in your color choices and fabric choices, and thus in designing a quilt. These are not traditional quilts, with organized patches. These are inspirational groupings of fabrics which tell a story, capture an emotion, or remind one of a particular place. Horton's fabrics come from all over the world, and from every style from calico to decorator to specialty. Includes discussions about using fabric and color techniques to reach your goals in quiltmaking.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Fabric Makes the Quilt, August 13, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The Fabric Makes the Quilt (Paperback)
Ms. Horton has put together one of the most inspirational and attractive quilting books that I've ever seen. I was a beginning quilter and a long-time artist, and this book helped "set me free" in this medium of fabric. It's packed with diverse examples, both culturally and stylistically. The compositions transcend their more traditional counterparts with a jaw-dropping alchemy of colour, texture, design and the spirit of creation. A must for any quilter with a rogue spirit and/or an interest in personalizing the quilt art form for certain visions!
