5.0 out of 5 stars The Most Timeless Fabriclive Mix Yet
Many works in this series fall into the pit of showcasing the DJ's talent only, and not trying to please the listener for more than an hour.

Not so with this disc.

In what is my favorite "summer CD" of all time, Spank Rock mashes gems from the 80s (Kano's "I'm Ready" and much more) with high-profile tracks from today (see "Technologic"), often...

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent rare mix
Disappointing at times. The mix out of "Owner of a Lonely Heart" trainwrecks. And some of the obscure tracks on here are downright obnoxious. The upside of the album is that other obscure tracks are hidden gems that I would not had been exposed to otherwise. Don't expect all BMore gutter music, its mostly early underground club.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Most Timeless Fabriclive Mix Yet, March 26, 2008

Many works in this series fall into the pit of showcasing the DJ's talent only, and not trying to please the listener for more than an hour.

Not so with this disc.

In what is my favorite "summer CD" of all time, Spank Rock mashes gems from the 80s (Kano's "I'm Ready" and much more) with high-profile tracks from today (see "Technologic"), often redoing the song from top to bottom and making it better each time. Without fully realizing it, the listener is taken on a journey through all types of catchy rhythms that can be played over and over. The tunes relax and enthuse the mind, gently pushing away any preconceptions of what a mix tape should sound like.

Perfect when mixed with heat and the summer sun. I have yet to play it at a party, but put up against all the other fabric live discs, I'd be sure to choose this one.

I went to a couple of raves and I thought they sucked because they played too much house and not enough drum-n-bass. My only exposure to dance music is more along the lines of George Clinton or some punk-type electronic chick rock stuff (Crystal Castles make house beats into the right idea). I know nothing about the rest of the Fabriclive series, but this makes me want to. I still prefer YOYOYOYOYOYO, but Spank Rock can also make a mean mixtape. The silver tin is a nice touch too.

This is some amazing stuff. Spank Rock's beatmatching is unbeatable, and his choice is songs never falters. For real? Mylo's "Drop the Pressure" flowing into "Owner of a Lonely Heart" by Yes? That's hot. Spank Rock transitions from old-school disco to electroclash to straight-up hip-hop, all the while maintaining the phattest bass lines and smoothest transitions I've heard in a DJ mix.

It's not glitch-y, erratic techno like many of the other Fabriclive discs... this is pure funky low-end, ripe for dance parties.

The Fabriclive series is a very uneven one, but this is a total gem. All over the place musically with an effortless flow; it stays interesting and completely addictive. Yello? Ed Banger stuff? Yes? (Well that may have been a misstep, but we can forgive, no?) It's great, and the glorious ending with "Love to the World" is about as uplifting as it gets.

So like I kept holding off on this one because it looked like another mix tape. Club shenanigans and all that. And while that may be so to a point, the album is the JAM. Spank himself drops lyrics on a couple songs with the ferocity of my old man dropping the kids off at the pool (Drop the Pressure and the 80s classic Talking In Your Sleep). Couple that with a tight selection of sparkling songs from the fast few decades plus guest spots by Amanda and Pase (Lindsay Lohan's Revenge anybody?). Take this to any party, play it front to back and watch the rocks go off.

Not to be missed. Not to be missed.
