Review

Publisher's Weekly, May 2011
"Giudice's recipes and instructions ensure quality every time… Traditionalists in search of a collection of classic recipes will appreciate Giudice's aversion to corner-cutting, and her calorie-cutting tips, and fans of The Real Housewives will lap it all up."

About the Author

Teresa Giudice is the star of The Real Housewives of New Jersey, airing its third season on Bravo in 2011. She was born in New Jersey to parents who emigrated from Italy, and has been married to her childhood sweetheart for 11 years. Together they have 4 daughters: Gia, Gabriella, Milania, and Audriana. She lives in Northern New Jersey.

Heather Maclean married a Scot, but her family, the Zavagnos, hails from northern Italy. A mom of 3, Princeton grad and former Disney exec, she was the first person ever to answer Mickey Mouse's e-mail.

This would have been a good book, but Teresa's bad mouthing her friends really turned me off.

So yes, I have watched RHONJ for sure. I am not a real fan of anyone in any of the shows. To me they are just shows and I leave the rest for the crazy fans to gossip about with their endless amounts of free time they seem to have on their hands. Now lets get to the cook book. When Teresa's first book came out I thought hey what they heck. Amazon had it for super cheap when it first came out. I got it for $9.00, so I thought hey it might have some good stuff in it. She cooks for her kids and a very picky husband every day so I thought this girl may know how to cook. It came and I cooked my way through it. I thought it was a great beginner into to Italian cooking. I actually review cookbooks and I liked it. She even teaches you how to can sauce with perfect detail and excellent instructions. So when the second came out I did a pre-ordered for it. It came and again cooked my way through it. Again very good. I cook A LOT and own MANY cook books. Like I said, I review them so I know a bad recipe and a good recipe and a bad cook book and good one. If you hate her just put that aside, her books are really well organized and she has great recipes. She keeps it healthy, budget friendly and tasty. For sure impressed.

We needed a change in the dinner menu. I bought the book and so far I've made six dishes. Everyone in my family loves everything I have made so far. Last night made the baked chicken, it was the best chicken and skin I have ever tasted. This book was a good investment, its healthy food! Never thought I could ever make home made tomato sauce!! These dishes leave plenty of left overs so these recipes are a time saver as well. The food even taste better the next day!

I was so excited to get this cookbook-I am a big RHONJ fan and thought the food looked delicious, so I bought this book-BIG MISTAKE! I pride myself on being a pretty good cook, but the "Quickie Sauce" tasted like tomatoes and water, which is basically what was in it! No seasoning? No garlic, onion, salt, pepper, etc? How is that sauce? I am returning this book and just getting recipes from my Italian friends who cook well-sorry Teresa!

What a disappointment. I began to leaf through the recipes and realized they were completely uninspired. Basic Tomato Sauce, Chicken Parmesan, Roasted Red Peppers.....give me a break! As I read the recipes, I realized that I have much better versions of almost every recipe in the cookbook. I already have these recipes in cookbooks I own (not to mention, plenty of the recipes are available for free online)!
I grew up in New York, eating authentic Italian food several times a week. This food is nothing like what you would be served in a New York Italian restaurant and my Italian friends would never serve the recipes in this book. There is no complexity in the food. I know that rustic Italian cooking relies on simple preparations of good quality ingredients, but these recipes do not seem authentic at all. The recipes that do look like real Italian dishes are recipes you can get anywhere.....Pizza Dough, Pasta Dough, Lasagna, etc. Believe me, if you compare Giada's Lasagna recipe to the one in this book, you will see what I mean. Giada's is decadent and sublime. I made Theresa's version, and it reminded me of a frozen Stouffers Lasagna. No one in my house would eat it. There is a recipe in this book called "Cavatelli with Ricotta and Red Sauce". There are three ingredients....Cavatelli, ricotta cheese and red sauce! C'mon on.....with recipes like this, my 7 year old niece could have written this cookbook!
Don't waste your time or money. If you want a great italian cookbook, check out books by Giada DeLaurentis, Marcella Hazan, Mario Batali and Lidia Bastianich. They are the real deal! I question the book editor that allowed this book to go forward.

I am very disappointed in Fabulicious! I thought it would be filled with some not so common Italian recipes. All the recipes can be found in ANY Italian cookbook. I won't be purchasing any more of her cookbooks.

When I received this book, I had hope that it would be something different to the other Italian cookbook I already owned. After a 15 mins read, I closed it and don't think I will be opening it again. First her recipes seem to be lacking ingredients. I am the noobiest of cook and I reckon I can do a better tomatoe pasta sauce than her. Second, there are hardly any photos of the food that would have been created from her recipes, they are all photos (cheesy shots at best) of her, her kids or her husband. I bought a cookbook, not her family album. And thirdly, way too many family bashing stories, not interested!
