fabulous 60's excellent, August 29, 2006
This review is from: Fabulous 60's:Overview [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I grew up in the 60's so I admit up front I am biased but I thought it was excellent.
It was narrated by Peter Jennings before his unfortunate premature demise and produced by The Canadian Broadcast System. I was impressed by the amount of footage they had of American events. Canada, even though a sovereign nation, I guess is closer to the US than I thought. It's a great walk (sometimes) down memory lane.
Having a degree in education, I don't think it would much of an educational tool for elementary or middle/Jr. High students who wouldn't have any context of the times that were seminal for their parents or grandparents. As a High School course it would be a stretch unless it was included in an elective History course that students signed up for.
An in-depth analysis of the issues of the most turbulent decade in US 20th century (except maybe for the `40's) is not practical. If one has those expectations we're not talking 10 tapes; we're talking 100.
It was well produced and scripted and I give it the max rating.
