If you've wondered what all the fuss is about working with Lutradur, you don't need to look any further than this book for the answer. Lesley covers all you need to know to start working with this very versatile textile. She starts with how to add color and pattern with a variety of painting mediums and then moves into techniques like stenciling, stamping, screening, printing and image transfers using several different methods. You'll even find directions on how to emboss, foil and needle felt with it. Projects range from books and wall hangings to blocks and art quilts by Lesley and other artists such as Claudine Hellmuth, Katie Kendrick and Jenn Mason. The book also includes two pieces of Lutradur so you can start working with it right away. This book is a must have resource for all levels of crafters interested in working with Lutradur.

Everybody is talking about Lutradur, but no one seemed to have the whole story. That's where Lesley's new book comes in. She starts out by telling you about Lutradur -- what it is, how it's made, and why it's so special. Then she describes 27 things you can do with Lutradur from adding color and pattern (think of the fun things you can do with paint, inks, and dyes), screening and printing, glueing and fusing, needle felting, and even using heat to cut and distort it.

After the techniques, Lesley shares a broad array of projects made by a variety of fiber artists. There's a project for every taste and temperament, incorporating the techniques in the earlier section of the book. Want to stamp and stencil? It's in there. Want to create three-dimensional objects with Lutradur? It's in there. It's all in there. I can't wait to try some of these wonderful ideas.

And she makes a suggestion that I really appreciate: she says to pick a new technique for which you already have the tools and try it on one of the pieces of Lutradur included in the back of the book. Yup! The book includes one sheet each of two different weights of Lutradur. And so once you've bought the book, you can actually play with the Lutradur without any additional purchases. I can't wait to try it.

If you're a mixed-media junkie like me, then you'll want this book! I've had Lutradur sitting on my shelf for months, not quite sure what to do with it. I had no idea it was such a versatile material, and can be used in so many finished projects. Lesley gives a thorough explanation of all the things you can do with Lutradur, including: painting, coloring, stamping, transferring, stitching, collaging, stenciling...the list goes on! And she includes beautiful finished projects done by her and other artists, with instructions on how they were completed. I've purchased many, many art/craft books, and this is one that makes me jump up, grab some of my art supplies, and start playing right away--the ultimate test of a good book!

If you are looking for a new textile medium to work with, and lots of cool techniques, then you must buy this book. Lesley Riley takes you step by step with everyting you need to know about working with Lutrador. If you are a paper artist, into mixed media, art quilter, or just like to craft you will enjoy this book. Lesley covers all the bases with detailed information and instruction about adding color, printing, fusing, cutting, and many more clever ideas. Included in the book are samples sheets of Lutrador to get you started and on your way to endless creative possibilities.

I had looked forward to this book with much anticipation and was exited when it became available. I am not quite sure what I expected but what I found were a lot of old ideas applied to boring projects. To me, a good craft book is when I look at the pictures and can't wait to get busy. I did not find one project in this book that I wanted to try. I had ordered a supply of lutradur at the same time I ordered the book. It still sits in an unopened box. I even offered the book to my daughter. she flipped through it and handed it back. To the authors credit, the instructions given in the book were clear and concise and I am sure easy to follow if you were so inclined. I wasn't, and I don't understand the rave reviews.

Lesley Riley's latest offering to artists' bookshelves is both a solid primer and a powerhouse of a workbook. The general technique section is detailed and expansive. It extensively covers image transfers, dyes and paint, needle felting, and much more. Lesley created most of the projects (each with clear and highly detailed instructions) herself, with additional contributions from Claudine Hellmuth, Katie Kendrick, Jenn Mason, and Judi Kaufmann. Photography throughout is large, clear, and colorful. Although relatively short, its 62 pages include the usual necessities - sources for supplies and bibliographies (online, too) - but wait, there's more! Bound into the book are several sheets of Lutradur, so you can begin to experiment IMMEDIATELY. How swell is that? Not many how-to books include the main component necessary for the projects' completion.

Once YOU have completed one or two of these lovely, clever, or in some cases, just plain adorable projects, you will become more facile in your use of the product and I can guarantee you will be intrigued enough to want to experiment further on your own - at which point you will need to go get yourself an entire package of Lutradur. See ya in the marketplace!

I just got my copy of the book and it is great! I too have had lutradur and wondered how to use it. After reading Lesley Riley's book, I not only know how to use it, I think I have to go out and get more so I can make more of the projects. I love that the book comes with 2 sheets of it already included.

Leslie takes a lot of the work out of working with Lutradur. I was appreciative of her section 27 things to do with Lutradur, where she shows the results of the various techniques and products -- how the various paints and dyes look after application. I plan to use her "memories of Italy" project to make memory books for my Grandchildren -- wonderful way to use the photos from the Disney World trip. In addition to the projects depicted, it should stimulate the creative juices of anyone who creates mixed media art.

Lurtradur is a fantastic new tool in the fiber and mixed media artists arsenal. I love that Leslie taught both techniques and projects using the product. It's great that a complementary page size sample of both weights of the product is included with the book. I've used several of her techniques already in my mail art and have made this book recommended reading for my group members at, [..].

I own all of Lesley's books and found this one to be a real jewel. I have played with Lutradur a little and this book has inspired me to get back to it again. The instructions are clear and the examples excellent. The projects are interesting and useful. The book also includes 2 pieces of Lutradur so that there is absolutely no excuse for not playing right away. Thanks Lesley for a job well done yet again.
