Great Charts!,

This book is full of traditional and updated charts for fair isle color pattern knitting. Most of the charts are accompanied by a close up photo of a corresponding knitted garment. This would be a great resource for people who design their own sweaters, or use Elizabeth Zimmermann's percentage system.

If you buy this book, you should know that this is NOT a book of fair isle garment designs to knit by hand. There is a bit of very interesting reading in the beginning of the book, followed by an excellent selection of authentic fair isle motifs. You will have to design your own hats, scarves, sweaters, etc. from the designs and charts. There are 5 designs to knit by machine at the back of the book, but no hand knit designs. However, the great thing about this book is that many patterns are shown knitted up next to a chart of the same design. Any fair isle knitter knows that the dots on the charts and the knitted up same design look a bit different. Here you can see how the charted pattern will look when handknit. I found this very helpful. Also, because the designs are on variously colored main colors, there is a lot of visual interst for colorways. I think this book belongs in most fair isle knitters' libraries, although the designs may also appear in other books. I am glad I own it. Got it from UK in about 5 days.
