The Fabulous Four chronicles the competition of four great champions: Sugar Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran, Thomas Hearns, and Marvin Hagler. This video is a must for any sports fan, depicting some of the greatest fights of this decade-long struggle: Duran's "hands of stone" pounding Leonard for the welterweight crown in Montreal, the famous "Alley Fight" between Thomas "the Hit Man" Hearns and Marvelous Marvin Hagler, and Leonard's amazing comebacks from retirement to recapture titles from his three opponents.

While many of these bouts require no introduction, the narration expertly introduces each fight for the uninitiated. A drawback of this video is the exclusion of the celebrated rematch between Leonard and Duran in which the latter was pummeled into crying "No mas, no mas" after enduring the Sugarman's viscious combinations. However, there is still plenty of bone-crunching action. A necessary addition to any sports fan's library, The Fabulous Four details some of boxing's greatest rivalries. --James Highfill

5.0 out of 5 stars Great selections and narration, December 29, 2000

I received this video as a Christmas present and ended up watching it straight through three days in a row. It contains outstanding footage of some unbelievable fights. The theme of "The Fabulous Four" is used creatively and is not at all contrived. It's thought-provoking to watch four fighters with very different styles and personalities take each other on at different stages of their careers. If you don't know the histories of all the fights, you will be continually surprised. You will find yourself posing questions like the following: If A can beat B, and B can beat C, why does C beat A? The answer, of course, is that there is no single scale of greatness, and on any given day the right set of skills will triumph over the wrong set. It's all in the matchups -- a lesson for sport and a lesson for life. Terrific.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smashing Highlights!, September 24, 1999

This is a great tape, I own many Boxing highlight tapes and this is one of the best. It includes the full 8 min war between Hagler and Hearns. All of the fights are covered and none of the fights (except Leonard-Duran II) are really neglected.
