Biography

Beginning his career as an outlaw to the Nashville establishment, Johnny Cash has come to define country music over the last 40 years. At first, his unique mix of hillbilly music with gospel and blues made him a perfect fit at Sam Phillips' Sun records, where he recorded such classics as "Folsom Prison Blues" and "I Walk The Line." Editorial Reviews

UK reissue of the Man In Black's 1958 debut album for the Columbia label. The Fabulous Johnny Cash was released at the same time as the lead single, 'Don't Take Your Guns To Town', with the former becoming a Top 20 album and the latter a Top 40 single. It got his Columbia career off to the perfect start and would go some way to helping him shift an estimated 90 million albums during his career. 12 tracks. Hallmark. 2009. --This text refers to an alternate Audio CD edition.

Great album, very upbeat. Johnny Cash is supposed to have kept his best songs for his first recording with Columbia Records. By hearing all the great tunes here, it is easy to believe so.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cash, The Debut On Columbia..., June 9, 2008
This review is from: Fabulous Johnny Cash (Audio CD)
Recorded in 1958, Released 1959, this would be the first Johnny Cash record for Columbia, it's also one of his best...I bet Sam Phillips regretted the day Johnny Cash departed Sun records, - due to creative discrepancies, the maverick singer wanted more song selection freedom, - recording more gospel material as you'll hear on this recording titled "That's Enough". "The Fabulous Johnny Cash" is a milestone debut for the man in black, this is Cash at his very best, featuring the classic songs, "Run Softly Blue River", "Frankie's Man Johnny", "One More Ride", "That's All Over", "Troubadour", Johnny's originals, "I Still Miss Someone", "Dont Take Your Guns To Town". My favorite all-time Johnny Cash recording, it's essential, it's here at a cheap reasonable price. From the writer of "I Walk The Line" and "Folsom Prison Blues", would also recommend the American recordings, Cash.
