Yes, Satch was fabulous, but...,

...there is nothing fabulous at all about this mess of a compilation. Despite the wealth of recordings spanning Armstrong's 50-year career, there really isn't a good, all-encompassing anthology available, leaving us to piece together his early jazz, his mid-career standards, and his late pop. Check Amazon's "essentials" list above for some best bets, but by all means don't start here.

Fabulous is right,

This review is from: The Fabulous Louis Armstrong (Audio CD)
This CD is great listening enjoyment, especially if you are into his "lesser known" early recordings. Plenty of trumpet and plenty of singing. He was in his prime in the thirties and this CD has plenty to offer. In fact, the weakest tracks are the ones recorded in the 70s (only a couple) but most of it is from the thirties and forties. This was my first Armstrong CD and prompted me to buy more. Buy this one with "Shooting High", you will love them!
