5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book!
As always Evelyn Sloppy doesn't disappoint! The quilts are surprisingly easy to make. The cover quilt is made entirely of short strips, though it looks much more complicated. I like the fact that the lap quilts are very generous in size. No more toes poking out while you nap.:) You will be happy you bought this one!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not for a beginner.
I felt like I was looking at computer images in the book. The quilts looked very difficult. I've been quilting for about 8 months. I was not impressed with this book. There are many many books I've already bought that I like much better. I sent this one back. Sorry.

I bought this book last night and I want to do every quilt in it. I love the colors she uses, which helps me because I'm not good with color. I do have some ideas though for changes to the quilts and I will work them out on EQ6. There is a really wild one called "entwined" and it is perfect for a young man. There are quilts for us ladies, quilts for the young, quilts for men, all in one book. I'll be checking out her other quilt books!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this book!!!, August 14, 2006
This review is from: 40 Fabulous Quick-Cut Quilts (Paperback)
I absolutely love this book! The quilts are so easy to make! I want to make almost every quilt in it, and if I wasn't still hand-quilting the first quilt I made out of this book, I'd have a lot more finished. I've looked at it so many times, I had it spiral-bound. You won't regret buying this book! BTW, I don't know why there aren't any voting buttons. Sorry.

Beautiful color photographs abound in this book. There are so many projects in this book I don't know where to begin. I like making scrap quilts and this books suits my needs. One of the quilt shows where I frequent can't keep this book in stock. They have to keep re-ordering because it flies off the shelf!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for scrap quilts, April 24, 2009

I bought this when I was looking for a scrap quilting book (to start getting rid of my stash of leftovers). It is very good for this; she gives most of the fabric requirements as (for instance) "1 fat quarter each of 11 assorted dark prints, or 3 yards total of scraps." You still have to purchase the backing and batting plus generally one "main" fabric, but scraps work well for the details.

The introductory section is very well written. She gives instructions for cutting, piecing, pressing, borders, binding, etc., plus some nice hints for things like sewing on the bias and getting your quilt to come out square.

On the downside, I personally don't like many of the patterns in the book. I might be pickier than most quilters, but I find most of these either too busy (like the quilt pictured on the cover) or too visually uninteresting. They are almost entirely made up of triangles and squares (which I suppose is what makes them "quick-cut"). However, there are a couple patterns in here that I really like, and I think the book is worthwhile just for these.

Another note: there are no recommendations or suggestions for quilting (the patterns all say "Quilt as desired"), but you can look closely at the photos of finished quilts to see what's been done. With the scrap look of these, many of them probably aren't great for quilting along the lines of the piecing, and you can see in the photos that many of them they have been quilted with a somewhat unrelated design (repeated over the whole quilt). It would be nice to see an outline drawing or two of suggested quilting patterns for each.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best by far, March 18, 2008
This review is from: 40 Fabulous Quick-Cut Quilts (Paperback)
I have been quilting for nearly 3 years. This is the first book I bought when I started quilting, and it is still the one I refer to most when looking for inspiration. I have a dozen quilt books, and this one is the best. The author gives very easy-to-follow instructions and great tips (like for multiple half-square triangles, binding, strip piecing, etc.) that I refer back to even when using a pattern from another book. I also use it for getting ideas for color coordination, since almost all of these quilts have fabulous color schemes. I would recommend having this book in your reference library.

I think this is a great book, easy to use and plenty of directions. Only you imagination will hold you back. I have seen the cover design done in a number of different fabric selections and could not have picked the best. A got to have.
