5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!
If you look through this book and can't find dozens of quilts that you want to make right away, then you are too picky! I couldn't believe that I actually fell in love with most of the quilts in here. Usually when I buy a quilt book there are lots of patterns that I know I will never do. But with 101 quilts in this book, you will never run out of projects. I like how...

3.0 out of 5 stars Quilt book
I was a bit disappointed in this book. After the first 20 pages the quilts just merged into one another - the same kinds of colours (rather boring) and fabrics and most of them are stars or use other triangle pieces. Nothing that really 'grabbed' me and said 'Wow, this is a great looking quilt'! The instructions can be helpful for other projects, so it was not a total...

I like how each one is rated a 1, 2, or 3 based on the difficulty level. And there are lots of instructions so even if you are new to quilting you will probably do just fine. Every project is shown in color, and the best part is that there ARE 101 quilts! The are all different, not just 10 quilts that are shown in 10 different color schemes to make 100 quilts. The best is the charm quilt - 1062 different fabrics are needed. Of course, you may not have enough fabric to make one but the picture in the book is beautiful to look at! Most of the quilts are easy to make with what you've got at home already.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for beginners and great ideas for all quilters, June 2, 2000
This review is from: 101 Fabulous Rotary-Cut Quilts (Paperback)
I've been a quilter for about two years. I like to rotary cut, and machine piece and quilt my projects. I want things done quickly! I also prefer traditional quilts to the more modern style. If your quilting style is similar to mine - or if you're just getting started in the quilting world and looking for a style - you'll enjoy this book. Nancy J. Martin is my favorite writer on quilting. The quilts are beautiful, the instructions are clear and concise, AND there are color pictures of each quilt (that's my favorite part). The quilts are rated according to difficulty (but none are really THAT hard to make). The beginning of the book has a nice "basics" section and the book ends with a short section on finishing methods. I've got so many new ideas for quilts now - i'm off to the fabric store! Great book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Attention quilters: This book could keep you busy for years!, May 25, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: 101 Fabulous Rotary-Cut Quilts (Paperback)
This is an excellent book and I'm very glad that I purchased it! It features a multitude of quilt patterns, some traditional and some more contemporary. The book shows a color photo of each quilt, and has complete and easy-to-follow rotary-cutting instructions for each project. Each quilt has a difficulty-rating, shown in terms of "spools" (i.e., one spool = beginner, two spools = intermediate, three spools = advanced) so that you can gauge if a particular project is within your range of skills before you begin. You will love seeing all of the many quilts that you can make with this book! Anyone who enjoys rotary-cutting and speed-piecing will LOVE using this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for all levels - You'll love it!, September 26, 1999
This review is from: 101 Fabulous Rotary-Cut Quilts (Paperback)
This is a great book for every level of quilter. The diagrams are easy to read and follow. I also found it quite easy to change colors to fit my personality and color schemes. My friends all borrow the book to find new projects and end up getting one for their own library. Great gift for beginning quilters!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for your quilting library!, February 20, 2001

I purchased this at the recommendation of a fellow quilter. As I read through the book, I found many projects I'd love to make! At present, I've used three of the designs in this book. The yardages have been accurate, and the instructions very clearly written. While many of the designs are suitable for the beginner, there are also designs that are more complex. Suggestions are made near the end of the book for machine or hand quilting patterns for each project. There are also instructions for hand tying your quilt, if you wish. All in all, I think this is a gem of a book (and a wonderful potential Christmas gift for the quilter on your list, too!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Possibly the best quilting book in my collection, February 12, 2006
This review is from: 101 Fabulous Rotary-Cut Quilts (Paperback)
True to its promise, this book shows off more than a hundred quilts which are designed for rotary cutters. You'll find a wide range of sizes and styles, from wall quilts to full bed quilts, and from traditional blocks to... well, traditional block variations. None of them are clinkers.

Many quilting books have designs that are all in one mood, even if they don't advertise themselves as such: very floral, or heavy on the "country," etc. Among the many things I like about 101 Fabulous Rotary-Cut Quilts is that it avoids this trap. You'll find everything from pastels to Amish designs to pinwheels. And, while plenty of the designs are scrap quilts, lots of them are NOT. (I'm a little tired of instructions that call for 1/8 yard from 32 different fabrics. Can I please make a quilt that uses only 3 or 4 fabrics?! But the point is that, even if you feel differently, you'll be as happy with the selection as I will.)

Plus, this book has some of the best quality instructions I've encountered. In most cases, the instructions all fit on one page, and they are blessedly straightforward.

The authors also recognize that not every quilter gets it right the first time; for example, the "Louisiana" wall quilt I'm just finishing advises, "Your blocks may not measure exactly 8.5 inches square when sewn. Cut this strip a little wider, and trim the sashing pieces to size after you piece the blocks, if you wish." I sure appreciate it when a book tells me how to fix the mistakes I'm most likely to make! (And why yes, I *did* trim the blocks afterward.)

One additional feature in this book that is much appreciated is the avoidance of the phrase, "Quilt as desired." I often feel that I need guidance on appropriate quilting patterns as much as I do on the piecing design. Fortunately, the book has a section with suggestions for each quilt. I'd never have thought up the one they suggested, and I'm glad I took their advice. It looks great.

I need to make a wedding quilt for my niece. There's no question which book I'll turn to first, when it comes to picking a design for such a big project.

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE THIS BOOK, December 26, 2002

I love it, love it, love it. I cannot say enough about this book. As a beginning quilter, I am often overwhelmed by the vague or lacking descriptions and directions in other pattern books. This book is detailed, and as the other reviewers have said, there really ARE 101 quilts. So far, I've completed 3 quilts, 2 quilt tops, and have the fabric purchased for 3 more, lol. You will NOT regret purchasing this book, whether you're a beginner (like me) or an experienced quilter.

I saw a copy of this book and loved every pattern, so I decided to buy one for myself. I don't regret that decision for a minute. The color pictures are great. The step-by-step directions are very clear and easy to follow (especially for us new quilters). The quilting suggestions at the back of the book are excellent. And I love the fact that the authors note the difficulty of each pattern (1, 2, or 3 spools). The variety of patterns makes this book well worth the money (which isn't much anyways).
