My mother is a Traditional, my mother-in-law is a Classic, my sister and my best friend are both Romantics, and my husband likes the Sporty look on women. However, I'm a Trendy....and for most of my life all these well-intentioned loved ones tried to dress me in the styles THEY liked. As a result, I had a closet full of clothes that were perfect for other people, and always felt like I had nothing to wear! This book did so much to help me realize that it's okay to have the personal style that I've always had, and that I'm at my best when I am making the most of what I am instead of when I'm trying to please everyone else. My style and my life have always walked a different path than the mainstream, and I just don't have words to adequately express how empowering it is to finally accept that it's okay to be different from everyone else--and that my uniqueness is something to celebrate! Now my closet is filled with clothes and accessories I love and wear all the time, with no "clunkers" that belong in someone else's wardrobe. And I constantly receive compliments, even from strangers, on my clothes--because I'm wearing the style that expresses me! Shopping is WAY more fun now too. Thank you, Tori!

I found Fabulous You! very helpful in determining style. Essentially illustration-free, but that's not too big a deal; you really don't need it. It's about style, and making it work for you, not about seasons and colors. But it's *really* good at finding your style.

Hartman has a matter-of-fact writing style. She's friendly, no-nonsense and encouraging; it's like getting advice from an old friend who tells it like it is. I really enjoyed this book. I found it to be very helpful in finding the right style for me, and in how to incorporate it into my life. I strongly recommend this book for anyone who's got major closet chaos, and needs to DO something about it. Buy this book if you just can't find the style that suits you. I really like Hartman's approach and personality, and happily recommend Fabulous You!

This book is very useful. When I found out my style, which I think is a "classic" with a "trendy" accent, it helped me to understand what kinds of clothes I would look good in, feel good in, and continually reach for in the morning to feel pulled-together, not the victim of the latest fashion-du-jour. In this way, knowing your style type, and improvising (you're free to do that) allows you to make better choices and SAVE MONEY on your wardrobe at the same time.

For those tired of being told they have to dress in only one way to look "put together" this book is a breath of fresh air. Tori Hartman's goal is to help you discover how to express YOURSELF in your wardrobe, not merely conform to someone else's idea of what looks good on you. It will help you hone your shopping skills and avoid expensive mistakes, but most importantly it will help you make the most of what you have, inside and out!

This is a great book! It has help me locate my style. It seperates people into six different style style types. Dramatic, romantic, trendy, classic, traditional, and sporty. It gives you a quiz that you take, plus a collage you can make as well that helps you determaine what your exact style is. Once I found my style type which turned out to be Dramatic, all of my style woes clicked into place.

You really have to look at yourself, and your style to get a lot out of this book.It took me a while to figure out that I was a Dramatic, and thought for a long time that I was a classic, traditional and even a romantic. Me being a dramatic might explain that I go everywhere more dressed up then everyone else and why high style and standout detailing id so important. Part of the problem I had with this book was because I was still a teen when I first bought it and I did, like all teens experiment with fashion . Once I found my niche in this book, everything clicked and I was able to fit myself into the dramatic .

This is also a great book because you are not shoved into style type, the author talks about accenting, IE you might dress like a romantic, but you may have somemore dramatic pieces. This gives people space to move.

The other piece I like about book is that it talks about colors with out being so fanatic as in Color me Beautiful, a book which also tells you that you have to be curvey to be a romantic, or pixish to be a sporty.

The only complaint I have about this book is that it is a bit out of date. Please take out the leggings and shoulder pads! They are out! But, because this book has timeless advice, I am willing to give this book 5 stars.

Have fun with your style!!

I have always had an interest in developing my style and have sought out many books to help me. This title is one of the better ones I have read although it needs some revision and updating.

I like the general concept of the six basic styles, and agree with most of her examples. I did find it helpful and now I understand how to choose what will suit me best. At first I was suprised to see what category I fell into most,(Romantic), but as I gave it more thought I realized it's true. Now I have a clearer picture of what to look for when adding to my wardrobe.

My criticisms of the book are the following. It needs to be updated as some of the celebrities are getting dated. Photos and/or drawings of some style examples would be helpful. Also, her answers to some of the questions are somewhat vague and make it hard to determine what type to choose. I had to be careful not to pick what type I wanted to be instead of what my answers show me to really be. A multiple choice quiz might have been better, followed by a writing exercise to help you figure it all out.

If you can find a copy of this it is still worth buying.

I felt that this book offered very reasonable advice. Keep in mind, no book dealing with a personal subject (such as fashion) is going to be 100% perfect. This book explained why I felt so uncomfortable in certain outfits. One can't take each category literally - there's wiggle room. The color advice made sense; however, what Walmart carries in your size may not be the exactly right color. I loaned my book to several girlfriends, some with closet dilemmas and some without, and they all liked taking the quiz and deciphering the results (which were never a suprise, we all know generally what kind of person we are, some are just in denial).

Tori Hartman provides the final piece of the personal style puzzle. Many women already know they have a palette of their "best" colors and know which styles flatter their body shape, but are mystified when even the right color/shape looks all wrong on them. While no woman will be rigidly one style-type, be it sporty, classic, or dramatic, she will be more comfortable and attractive in one of six general style-types. Ms. Hartman's assessment of the characteristics of the different types will liberate you from ever again facing a closet full of clothes that you never wear! She explains the pitfalls of clashing style-types within mother/daughter relationships and even devotes a section to men's style-types. A true validation of our individuality and a fun read!

This refreshing offering in the fashion genre is outstanding because it genuinely treats of personal style. (Too many others, ostensibly doing the same, repeat the same tired exhortation to the look that is termed professional - which usually means dowdy.) The presentation is enjoyable and fun, and readers should appreciate the both useful and lighthearted approach to colour.
