Book Description

Goodman-Bradley Mystery September 1, 1993
Cutler's unlikely detective duo of aging tough guy P.I. Rayford Goodman and hip, gay writer Mark Bradley are back for more witty, inside-Hollywood mystery. Hired to guard an Oscar-winning director with mob connections, the pair soon find themselves watching over a bullet-riddled corpse.

Editorial Reviews

From Kirkus Reviews

Pepper-and-salt detective duo Rayford Goodman (right-thinking, 50-ish, worried about angina) and Mark Bradley (left-thinking, blow- dried, gay), linked only by mutual aversion and Rayford's unlikely romance with Mark's researcher friend Francie, are back for another Hollywood shoot-'em-up, commencing with the execution of director Claudio Fortunata as he's recovering from plastic surgery (a flawless killing except that it's not Fortunata under the bandages). Then the story moves to Claudio's home and the set of One Fell Swoop--where the mounting roll of homicides (now including the real Claudio) will be supplemented by such assorted felonies as theft (Claudio's leather- bound copy of the script), assault and battery (by two rival mobs), fraud (who's using wholesale murder to redirect the revenues of Claudio's last film?), and cat torture. As in Best Performance by a Patsy (p. 634), the roll-call of suspects--from the brainless stars to an excitable Hungarian camera operator to a professional hit-woman--will leave you reeling, which is more than can be said for One Fell Swoop. Better just unreel and enjoy Mark and Ray's endless, though oddly similar, supply of one-liners. -- Copyright ©1991, Kirkus Associates, LP. 5.0 out of 5 stars Cleverest mystery series ever--intriguing, witty, great plot, March 30, 1999
This review is from: The Face on the Cutting Room Floor (Goodman-Bradley Mystery) (Paperback)
Cutler uses an unconventional form for his Goodman-Bradley series which could be confusing in the hands of a writer less adept--but is instead illuminating and great fun. His heroes are Goodman, an irrascible over-the-hill P.I. whose glory days are long past, and Bradley, a young West Hollywood guy into the local scene. Cutler's books have chapters alternating the first person voice of each of the two characters which works with diabolical cleverness. Add his Hollywood milieu for the stories and you have magic. It's CRIMINAL there hasn't been a new book featuring this pair in some time

4.0 out of 5 stars Why Did This Series End??, January 7, 2006
This review is from: The Face on the Cutting Room Floor (Goodman-Bradley Mystery) (Paperback)
I still have all four and was sure I would enjoy many more in the future. Then the author disappeared and the series dried up. I occasionally search for a new effort but now know it's not going to happen. Have never found any reason (author dying, retiring etc) why the author stopped. Loved the protaganists and their give and take.
