Editorial Reviews

Two time award winner for Best Documentary of 2004, In the Face of Evil: Reagan's War in Word and Deed is about a man and nation's courageous journey through the heart of darkness and how that journey inspires us today. This film is not a traditional biopic of Ronald Reagan, but a hard-hitting exploration of leadership and moral courage. Based on Reagan's War, Peter Schweizer's acclaimed bestseller, In the Face of Evil, pits the brutality of totalitarian communism against Reagan's inflexible passion to see freedom's light shine on all the people of the world. The film's timeless lessons inspire us as a call to action. Ronald Reagan's legacy gives us courage to stand tall despite our enemy's harshest aggressions and to never waver in the face of evil.

5.0 out of 5 stars "In the Face of Evil" DVD, September 22, 2005
Last year, my Russian friend Nikita had tears in his eyes when he begged me and others to watch this video. I was so startled by his reaction that I did so. As I watched it, I remembered an incident of nearly 25 years ago. The night Reagan was first elected President. I had been swimming in my health club pool when I heard the news and was so horrified that I momentarily thought to drown myself. Instead, I prayed desperately that God would rid my country of this 'fool'. 25 years later, I am so glad God didn't listen. Because of Reagan, I got to see Hungarians and Poles dancing in their liberated countries, I saw ecstatic Germans smashing the Berlin Wall as it fell. And I saw a spectacle I never thought I would see in my lifetime (or any one else's), the hammer and sickle flag of Communism being lowered for the last time in Red Square. All because of a 'fool' I prayed God would get rid of.

"In the Face of Evil" tells how this all happened. Without hystrionics, without brutal political bias, it relates how Reagan saw what the rest of us didn't - that the 'emperor' of Russia had no clothes of real power. And how Reagan had the courage to act on that vision. I had always thought he was the Great Communicator - now I understand why he is justly labeled the 'Great Liberator'. And why my friend Nikita wept when he watched the tale of how this single man set so many millions free. Please watch it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Movie Ever Made About the Gipper!, April 16, 2005
In less than two months it will be year since President Reagan left this world in order to touch the face of God and 'meet the Big Fella upstairs." It is a pity that he had no chance to watch this movie. Yet it is a good reminder that his legacy is so well preserved and displayed in this movie.

The movie is somewhat divided in two parts - Words and Deeds. It is a wonderful combination, a genuine harmony that Gipper was always distinguished for. He made the Soviets to sit at the table of negotiations and with Gorbachov he managed to remove the Iron Curtain and then the Berlin Wall.

Which president could address the way he did? Which president could dare talk to Russians when they dropped the KAL AIRPLANE? And which president could force Russians to withdraw from Afghanistan and Nicaragua, not to mention his efforts to liberate the entire eastern European Block?

President Reagan will always remain in the history of mankind and if we spend evenings peacefully and go to bed without looking up in the sky with some fear, that is HIS merit! May His Soul Rest In Peace!

Special appreciation should go to the Leo McWatkins studio and the producer Mr.Tim Watkins who made this wonderful gift for all of us! The movie deserves galaxy of stars!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Modern Defense of Liberty against Tyrants, November 8, 2005

This review is from: In the Face of Evil - Reagan's War in Word and Deed (DVD)
This is a good documentary for anyone who wants to understand the cold war era. Starting with the rise of the evil left wing twins Communism and Nazi Fascism this tells the story of the bloodiest century in human history through the eyes of a single man who dedicated his life to doing something about it. The footage is somewhat raw in places and the pictures of the horrors inflicted by Nazi, Bolshevik, and Maoist regimes will be too intense for young children. I lived through that period and think this the best and most concise presentation of the events of those years that I have seen. My wife and I saw it in the theater and were rapt for the entire length of the movie. This DVD is a cherished member of my documentary collection. Due to the obvious budget constraints I give it a production quality of about 3* and a content quality of 5*.

The music is orchestral and deeply moving, evoking both pathos and heroism at appropriate times in the presentation. There are no jarring techno-funk or rock-n-roll cuts for those who are scrupulous of such things.

The material is perfect for Middle School and High Schools students. More depth would be required for college but the 4 step process Regan and his men devised to fight the "Evil Empire" might make good undergraduate paper material for American or World History 101.
