Another cash-in. Don't waste your money., August 21, 2002
This review is from: Face Factory Add-On for The Sims (CD-ROM)
The Sims already creates dozens of expansion packs for its game to force us to buy more and more rather than rolling them into one. Here is a real cash-in not worth it at all. The idea is to create custom faces that look more like the people you want them to look like. In fact, the faces look deformed once you alter them to try to make them like real people, and it is impossible to get them how you want them. Besides, you can download Sims FaceLift (incidentally no better but free) from the Sims website. Don't waste your money.

Look at Me - I'M A SIM!! :), February 26, 2003
This review is from: Face Factory Add-On for The Sims (CD-ROM)
After having little sucess creating Sims with faces that were actually lifelike with online downloads, I was excited to find software that would let me put 'real' people into my Sims game.
About three minutes after popping the CD into my computer, Face Factory was installed and ready to go. Always one to do things the hard way, I bypassed the (conveniently located on the disc) instructions and jumped right in. The main screen shows the inside of a fully-stocked laboratory with bleeps and blips everywhere - including one flashing button showing non-intruction-reading users where to go first.
A step-by-step on-screen tutorial guides users through creating that perfect face, showing you everything from how to crop and position the image to lining up eyes and ears. Although this program works best if you have two images of your subject (one front view and one side view), it still creates remarkably nice heads with just a front-facing photo. (Note: I thought at first that getting a perfect image was going to be a huge pain - not so. I took two pictures of my husband at night with bad lighting and it still turned out great. Don't sweat it.)
After only about fifteen minutes of playing with it my first time through (and a one-click button to import new faces into the game), my husband and I were both rendered Sims, and pretty darn good looking ones at that. Okay, female hair is a little tricky to work with - but they were undeniably us, and it was a blast watching us mingle with other Sim families. I can only imagine the chaos that will ensue when I import a few celebrities! :) The game includes a large variation of bodies to mix with the head you've created (male, female, boy and girl, so you can put ANYONE into the game) - but I found that after starting the game, you could put your new head on any body already installed as well. TONS of possibilities - although my husband was less than amused by his new Robin Hood attire.
The ONLY downside to this software that I've found is that, if you don't have easy access to a digital camera, then you're gonna have to wait around to get your pictures back. I'm not a big fan of waiting for anything, so I dug my camera out as soon as the software arrived and had Instant SIM!
All in all, this a great, easy to use Sims add-on - a great sight more effective than Maxis downloads I've wrestled with. Highly recommended to any fellow SIMs addict!!!

Get The Sims Deluxe instead!, September 28, 2002
This review is from: Face Factory Add-On for The Sims (CD-ROM)
This product is NOT from Maxis, the maker of the Sims, and is very complicated to use and to install the faces into the game. The Deluxe edition of the Sims includes a very easy program for creating your own faces and skins (clothes on body)that is well worth getting!! After only a couple of tries, you can create very nice new faces and skins that load automatically in the game for you: practically a no-brainer! I agree that there are 5 expansion packs for the Sims, that serious "Simmers" loyally buy, but there are also lots of imitators taking advantage of the popularity of the game. Be careful with anything not Maxis made and supported....the game could become corrupted.
