A Great Addition to the Family,
By
This review is from: The New Face of Grandparenting... Why Parents Need Their Own Parents (Paperback)
I wish "The New Face of Grandparenting" was available when my children were born. I would have bought 3 copies - one for me, one for my parents and one for the in-laws. At that time, I was juggling full-time work with being a new mom. It was overwhelming. In this book, Don Schmitz offers so many ideas and suggestions that would have helped me navigate my new role much more gracefully. Plus, I would have learned how to deal with the inevitable challenges that arise when the grandparents have different perspectives on how to take care of the kids. I needed to involve and engage my own parents on a whole new level - something that is covered in depth in this book. Not only is it filled with insightful "How To" advice, but it's also a great read with delightful stories. Jill Konrath

This review is from: The New Face of Grandparenting... Why Parents Need Their Own Parents (Paperback)
The New Face Of Grandparenting: Why Parents Need Their Own Parents by Don Schmitz (Founder of Grandkisand me, The Grandkisandme Foundation, Grandparent Camp, and Grandkid Days) is an insightful and informative examination of the changing role of grandparents in today's world, along with very practical advice for becoming a grandparent, and offering an emphasis on the "four L's" of effective relationships: Loving, Laughing, Listening, and Learning. Advice for maintaining a strong family bond even if members live many miles apart, as well as the importance of preserving heritage and legacy, are among the highlights of this gentle, thoughtful, and very strongly recommended guide to how parents and grandparents can best work together for the benefit of the children.

For Both Parents and Grandparents,

This review is from: The New Face of Grandparenting... Why Parents Need Their Own Parents (Paperback)
This book is a must read for both parents and grandparents. It can head off potential pitfalls in your relationships of children, parents and grandparents. The reading is light with great humor and actual true life side stories mixed in. Some of the rules of the road that are offered are more commonsense, but need to be reitereted, to help maintain and grow good relationships between the age groups.

By Dorothy Michels (Chanhassen, MN USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The New Face of Grandparenting... Why Parents Need Their Own Parents (Paperback)
I found this book to be educational, entertaining and written with great love. The vision behind this book, " rekindling the spirit of grandparenting within the family" is illustrated with wonderful stories from both grandparents, "infant wisdom", and pictures of families coming together to richen both parent to parent relationships and grandparent to child relationships. Don provides information that is understandable, interactive and easy to include in parents and grandparents busy lives while adding a new language, "sald bowl", bringing the vision into today's reality.

By Jan Hively "Vital Ager" (Minneapolis, MN United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The New Face of Grandparenting... Why Parents Need Their Own Parents (Paperback)
This book presents valuable guidance for every parent and grandparent, presented in an easy-to-read array of lessons and stories, quotes, good ideas, anecdotes, and photos. I found good ideas about how to reach out to my granddaughter 2,000 miles away, and how to talk with my daughter about my needs and concerns as a grandparent. Don shows us many reasons and ways to bring the generations together.
