Product Description

With Adele s 21 being last year s global chart-topper and the biggest-selling album of the decade, Neil Cowley was quite literally the most listened-to pianist on the planet last year!

With Adele s global chart-topper 21, Neil Cowley was quite literally the most listened-to pianist on the planet last year. He provided piano for Adele s poignant Hometown Glory, Make You Feel My Love, and Rolling in the Deep. Produced by Grammy®-nominated recording engineer Dominic Monks (Ray LaMontagne). Features soundscape guitarist Leo Abrahams, best known for his work with Brian Eno.

Review

Like Ben Folds Five (without the vocals). --JazzTimes

Anchored by Cowley s restless and even anthemic piano melodies, the trio balances a propulsive rhythmic drive with a lush delicacy. --Los Angeles Times

London-born Cowley is wonderfully percussive and powerful, with a fondness for lyrical flourishes in the midst of the groove ... a great, creative piano trio. --Downbeat

Neil Cowley Trio - The Face Of Mount Molehill (Naim Jazz)
Filed without mercy under `jazz', therefore destined to be deemed `too difficult' by a sizeable proportion of the record buying public, much like Bill Wells, Neil Cowley has much to offer the contemporary rock and pop fan.

The trio of Neil Cowley on piano and keyboards, Rex Horan on bass and Evan Jenkins on drums are a strictly instrumental combo, yet they display a playfulness which can in turns be epic and spacious or equally claustrophobic and a trifle disconcerting. For proof of the former give "Hope Machine" a spin, the Radiohead-esque ambition is breathtaking. As for the latter, have a go with "Mini Ha Ha" Built around a snippet of baby laughter - indeed Cowley's own offspring - it veers from gentle and amusing to uncomfortable and downright unsettling with consummate ease. It's already found its way to the top of my iPod weekly playlist; so number one somewhere in the world - I think we can send a certificate...

not an easy cd to categorize but it is infectious. try to not get caught up in the buzz and the roar and then whispers of music thrown at you.
