5.0 out of 5 stars QUITE PERFECT!!, January 19, 2002
This review is from: Face Mtv Unplugged (Audio CD)
Best umplugged, best performance, the same beautiful, well-done babyface songs, and one more thing: babyface put it all together, as one, never falls, never decline. Quite perfect, five stars, and so, so, so warm!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of Soul's Best Producers/Singer-Songwriters Live., February 24, 2001

This review is from: Face Mtv Unplugged (Audio CD)
Babyface is one of the most prolific songwriters and producers in the contemporary soul market. This unplugged live performance is a wonderful showcase for Babyface to perform his own greatest hits. You may not be familiar with Babyface as an artist, but you will recognize most of the songs here because they were hits for a variety of soul artists. "Change the World", the Eric Clapton hit, opens the set with Clapton playing guitar. Clapton is among several guest artists including Stevie Wonder and K-Ci & JoJo among others. If you like Whitney Houston, you will like this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars this is a wonderful CD, November 16, 1998

I knew about Babyface's talent for writing songs, but I had no idea about his talent for singing them! I especially loved "Change the World" with Eric Clapton. All the songs were relaxing and all the singers had beautiful voices. Babyface just does it all. This CD is definitely a must have!

The unplugged version of Whip Appeal is absolutely perfect. I bought this cd back in 1997 and forgot about it, however the day I heard the original version of Whip Appeal and remembered the album, so here I am buying it again 10 years later. This album is perfect background music for a relaxing night at home.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great demonstration of Babyface's landmark on 90's music, July 9, 2005
This review is from: MTV Unplugged NYC 1997 (MiniDisc)
Whether you love him or hate him, there's a thing you can't deny : Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds is truly a genius. It's no surprise if all the best Quiet Storm songs of the 90's came from him.
But be warned, it's not your typical live album : Babyface sings only a little more than 50% of the tracks because there is an impressive list of guests, which would make dream many artists. Eric Clapton, Stevie Wonder, Shanice Wilson, K-Ci & Jojo... need I say more?
The opening song finds Babyface in a "pop" style, very different from his trademark sound, with the wonderful "Change The World", usually sung by Eric Clapton (here it seems he only plays guitar).
Shanice Wilson replaces Toni Braxton on "Breathe Again" but that's not a problem since she has really no cause to be envious of her : she's just outstanding on that track. Beverly Crowder covers Whitney Houston's "Exhale", from the "Waiting for Exhale" OST.
The Boyz II Men medley is really great but I'm just disappointed the group is not present here, even if the performance of AZ Yet's Marc Nelson (which was a part of the 1st version of Boyz II Men and has left before their 1st album) is a nice tribute. Another highlight is Michael Jackson's "Gone To Soon", a beautiful duet between Babyface and what is certainly his biggest influence, Stevie Wonder of course. It seems to me it's the only song from this cd which is not a Babyface composition.
If you doubt of Babyface's talent, then you need to hear this to realize his skills, and also that maybe a lot of your favorite songs wouldn't exist without him. But you need to hear this also to see how much he has contributed to 90's music. I personnally think his best songs are the ones he has written for other artists.
If there was a cover of TLC's "Red Light Special" by, say, Chanté Moore (hmm), then this live album would have been perfect for me ;)

PS : Sorry but there is no cover of Madonna's "Take A Bow" here, it must be a mistake from the Amazon reviewer

TOP 5
1. I'll Make Love To You and End Of The Road
2. Breathe Again
3. Whip Appeal
4. Change The World
