Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Japanese pressing of the 2007 collaboration between rapper, Bow Wow and R&B singer Omarion featuring two bonus tracks: 'Lights, Camera, Action' and 'Let Me Hold You'. Face Off marks the culmination of a joint collaborative process dating back to 2005 when Omarion's vocal contributions to Bow Wow's 'Let Me Hold You' (from the album Wanted) peaked at #4 in the Billboard Hot 100. Since then, both artists have achieved great success and came together when the time was right. 14 tracks including the first single 'Girlfriend'. Columbia. --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

1.0 out of 5 stars Why Omarion, Why, Just Why??, December 14, 2007
Why...did Omarion team up with Bow Wow to make this ridiculous excuse of an album, I do not know? They are completely two different artists, Omarion makes great RnB music and Bow Wow makes barely listenable Rap music (if you can call it that). Don't get me wrong, I love some of Bow Wow's music, but I can honestly say that I have never listened to a whole album of his because I find myself skipping many of the songs. He simply sounds the same, everytime he raps, his flow is the same and he speaks of the same subject matter - and you will find that on this album too. However, I am not saying Omarion is the world's perfect vocalist but his albums you can listen to all the way through, I mean that 21 album was on fire. I just think that this album was a mismatch?

This album was generally a disaster, they should have made one song together not a whole album. I can only listen to 2 songs on the album, and that's "girlfriend" and "hoodstar".

The reason I am so down on Bow is because I feel because he has been an artist since a very young age, he simply doesn't have the same life experiences as some of the very talented artists out there today. This solely could be the reason that the topics he raps about are repetitive. For example, "Outta My System" that song was hot, no doubt about it, and what made it hot is that he is discussing a real emotion and that is a great subject matter.

I don't know why, but I expected so much more. Maybe this project was rushed...I was looking forward to this album, they sounded melow and good together on "Let Me Hold You", but this album is just a general disappointment.

:(

4.0 out of 5 stars better than folks are saying.., December 18, 2007
I'm not saying that this is Grammy nominated material here or anything of that nature.

But it is enjoyable and does offer a few quality songs from Bow Wow & O as well. They have writing credits on every song on the cd some are a lot better than others like "Another Girl",
"Hood Star", "Girlfriend", "Hey Ain't Gotta Know" and "Can't Get Tired of Me". I really enjoyed those songs above.

Then are some stinkers on here as well such as "Number Ones" and "Take Off Your Clothes" which kind of made me cringe just listening to them as to me neither offer anything special and just aren't that memorable to me at all. Also didnt really care for "Face Off" but that one is barely over 2 minutes and serves more as an intro to me than anything.

Besides those songs there i didnt have an issue with "Face Off". I'm glad they both got together to do this as promised and they seem to flow back and forth pretty well on a number of songs. Its probably not for everyone but it is enjoyable and to me worth the money..although i don't understand the editing out profanity in the songs...why?? It doesnt make sense if your going to say it in the song go ahead and let others hear it as well. Or put out an edited version of "Face Off" on it own as an alternative.

Minor gripe though the cd is nice overall minus a few bumps in the road. "Face Off" will only magnify the status of both B-dub and O as well much success to you guys on this one and the future.

:D

3.0 out of 5 stars Far from great, January 27, 2008
Face Off 3/5 - Rip off of the Jay-Z and R. Kelly song "Best of Both Worlds". Omarion also claims that this is his 6th album, but even if he counts his the 2 B2K releases it only adds up to 5 albums.

Hood Star 5/5 - First song leaked and also the best song on the album.

Girlfriend 5/5 - Good first single choice. If you didn't like it then you won't like the album.

Hey baby 3.5/5 - Second single and samples "Push It" by Salt N Pepa. Didn't like this song at all but grew on me since the video was released.

He Ain't Gotta Know 3.5/5 - Produced by T-Pain. The song is pretty much the entire gist of the whole album which I will explain later in the review.

Bachelor Pad 3/5 - I hope Timboland didn't charge too much for this sub-par beat.

Listen 5/5 - A very quality song. It's a tie for best song with Hood Star.

Can't Get Tired Of Me 3.5/5 - Song would be alot better if it was an Omarion solo over this smooth R&B beat.

Number Ones 3/5 - Excellent production but doesn't fit in with the rest of the songs. It's more of A Jay-Z or Kanye style beat. Plus the hook is awful.

Baby Girl 3/5 - Feel good song, some people will like it more than others.

Take Off Your Clothes 4/5 - Sexually explicit lyrics. Hot bridge by Omarion.

Another Girl 2/5 - Not a good closer. Probally most would agree it's the worst song.

Overall there isn't too much exciting material going on here. Bow Wow's lyrics are EXTREMELY repetive and claims that Face Off is "music at it's purest". In almost every song Bow Wow has a girl who already has a boyfriend. Bow Wow is better than him though because he is either "flyer, richer, and he drives an Astin Martin". Bow wow also claims to be a "young Ron Jeremy". Omarion definantly took a step back on this album. His first solo LP I consider a modern R&B classic. Face Off was sounds like it was rushed. There's a mentioning of Kanye West's song Good Life on "Baby Girl". That song was realeased only a couple months before Face Off was realeased. Anyways... Face Off sticks to the formula and will appeal mostly the young. Being 20 years old and a young guy myself, I am old enough to know there is alot of better Hip Hop out there to enjoy... but hot songs like Hood Star, Listen, and Girlfriend will be in rotation on my iPod.
