The 2 most Overrated People on one album....,

This review is from: Face Off (Audio CD)
This whole album is BS, n I really mean BS. Basically this isn't an album at all, this is more like an album to the fans of Bow Wow and Omarion. This album really sucks, the only good song here is probably "Girlfriend" and even that song is just plain average. Bow Wow sucks horribly, I don't even consider him a rapper, more like a wannabe rapper who just uses his looks, Bow Wow has no lyrics at all, no credibility, no substance NOTHING. I like Omarion just a little more than I do Bow Wow but thats not saying much, he is not the greatest singer in the world but sometimes he can surprise you, he is very limited and again like Bow Wow uses his looks to gain money. So u got 2 highly overrated people with only 10 songs and they all suck a** so don't waste money on this. U want real music go cop that new Wu-Tang album "8 Diagrams" or Lupe Fiasco's "The Cool", now thats real music.

I'm not saying that this is Grammy nominated material here or anything of that nature.
But it is enjoyable and does offer a few quality songs from Bow Wow & O as well. They have writing credits on every song on the cd some are a lot better than others like "Another Girl", "Hood Star", "Girlfriend", "Hey Ain't Gotta Know" and "Can't Get Tired of Me". I really enjoyed those songs above. Then are some stinkers on here as well such as "Number Ones" and "Take Off Your Clothes" which kind of made me cringe just listening to them as to me neither offer anything special and just aren't that memorable to me at all. Also didnt really care for "Face Off" but that one is barely over 2 minutes and serves more as an intro to me than anything. Besides those songs there i didnt have an issue with "Face Off". I'm glad they both got together to do this as promised and they seem to flow back and forth pretty well on a number of songs. Its probably not for everyone but it is enjoyable and to me worth the money..although i don't understand the editing out profanity in the songs...why?? It doesnt make sense if your going to say it in the song go ahead and let others hear it as well. Or put out an edited version of "Face Off" on it own as an alternative. Minor gripe though the cd is nice overall minus a few bumps in the road. "Face Off" will only magnify the status of both B-dub and O as well much success to you guys on this one and the future. :D

Why Omarion, Why, Just Why??,
This review is from: Face Off (Audio CD)
Why...did Omarion team up with Bow Wow to make this ridiculous excuse of an album, I do not know? They are completely two different artists, Omarion makes great RnB music and Bow Wow makes barely listenable Rap music (if you can call it that). Don't get me wrong, I love some of Bow Wow's music, but I can honestly say that I have never listened to a whole album of his because I find myself skipping many of the songs. He simply sounds the same, everytime he raps, his flow is the same and he speaks of the same subject matter - and you will find that on this album too. However, I am not saying Omarion is the world's perfect vocalist but his albums you can listen to all the way through, I mean that 21 album was on fire. I just think that this album was a mismatch?
This album was generally a disaster, they should have made one song together not a whole album. I can only listen to 2 songs on the album, and that's "girlfriend" and "hoodstar". The reason I am so down on Bow is because I feel because he has been an artist since a very young age, he simply doesn't have the same life experiences as some of the very talented artists out there today. This solely could be the reason that the topics he raps about are repetitive. For example, "Outta My System" that song was hot, no doubt about it, and what made it hot is that he is discussing a real emotion and that is a great subject matter. I don't know why, but I expected so much more. Maybe this project was rushed...I was looking forward to this album, they sounded melow and good together on "Let Me Hold You", but this album is just a general disappointment. :(

Great Album!,

The album definitely expresses growth, between both artists. The lyrical content shows maturity, and every song contains something fresh and creative. It is very versatile, consisting of just enough hip-hop, r&b, with even a bit of pop.

I remember when they were this high. Now I remember them hot!,
This review is from: Face Off (Audio CD)
Pros: I'm a little too old to be a Bow Wow and Omarion groupie, but I had to laugh and take notice of "Take Off Your Clothes." Now THAT song sealed the stamp that these dudes have grown up, and I have to respect them for putting a song like that on their collaboration album. I hadn't paid much attention to this album until I saw the BET special on them talking about it, and both are interesting to watch in interviews, so I listened to this CD. I liked Bow Wow's last album, and it was the first one I bought. Omarion continuously grows on me, specifically songs like "Touch" and "Ice Box," which surprised me because most songs that I hear from Omarion have that annoying Keith Sweat whining vibe to them, and it's a turn-off. Omarion's voice is nice, not outstanding. However, I said the same thing about Chris Brown and he did "This Christmas" with a much better tone. Omarion, with time, may do the same and make me a continuous fan. Bow Wow lost me on the BET special when he compared himself to Jay-Z because I think he has to challenge himself more lyrically to get to that level (not that Jay-Z's rhymes are all that deep). Plus, his comment about Madison Square Garden was untrue considering Bow Wow did not go alone. Jay-Z would've sold MSG out if it was just him performing. I think Bow Wow went with a group, right?
Initially I didn't think I'd be able to handle someone singing while another person rapped on every single track, but this album worked. It started off kinda slow for me, but "Listen" and "Can't Get Tired of Me" picked the CD up quickly. The beats were cool, and many times the lyrics (of Bow Wow usually) made me want to memorize the words. These guys have done a great job of improving their craft and becoming more successful. I don't see why they would feel awkward at awards shows or anywhere else that showcases music talent. They've been in the game so long and made such a lasting impression, and these two talented young men deserve the best. Cons: I wouldn't put this album in the same category as "Best of Both Worlds" though because R. Kelly does far more soul and grown man music than Omarion, and again, Bow Wow has not challenged himself enough lyrically to be in the same park with Jay-Z. I'm always wondering what drugs rappers are doing when they say they are the best lyricists alive. Did I sleep through Mos Def's, Talib Kweli's, or Rakim's deaths because as long as those three are alive, NOBODY else even remotely compares. Actually, Big Daddy Kane and Jean Grae rhyme better than Bow Wow too. Bow Wow has a long way to go before he can reach the level of these lyricists. I wouldn't put it past him, but he's not there yet. Note: I appreciate Omarion's humble nature to balance out Bow Wow's cockiness. Now THAT attitude reminds me of a certain person from "Best of Both Worlds," and I'm not talking about Jay-Z either. I hope if they perform this album, nobody's ego messes up the tour. They made the right decision to use "Girlfriend" as their first single. Every single time I hear it, I like that song even more, and I started off not caring for it.

Face Off 3/5 - Rip off of the Jay-Z and R. Kelly song "Best of Both Worlds". Omarion also claims that this is his 6th album, but even if he counts his the 2 B2K releases it only adds up to 5 albums.
Hood Star 5/5 - First song leaked and also the best song on the album. Girlfriend 5/5 - Good first single choice. If you didn't like it then you won't like the album. Hey baby 3.5/5 - Second single and samples "Push It" by Salt N Pepa. Didn't like this song at all but grew on me since the video was released. He Ain't Gotta Know 3.5/5 - Produced by T-Pain. The song is pretty much the entire gist of the whole album which I will explain later in the review. Bachelor Pad 3/5 - I hope Timboland didn't charge too much for this sub-par beat. Listen 5/5 - A very quality song. It's a tie for best song with Hood Star. Can't Get Tired Of Me 3.5/5 - Song would be alot better if it was an Omarion solo over this smooth R&B beat. Number Ones 3/5 - Excellent production but doesn't fit in with the rest of the songs. It's more of A Jay-Z or Kanye style beat. Plus the hook is awful. Baby Girl 3/5 - Feel good song, some people will like it more than others. Take Off Your Clothes 4/5 - Sexually explicit lyrics. Hot bridge by Omarion. Another Girl 2/5 - Not a good closer. Probally most would agree it's the worst song. Overall there isn't too much exciting material going on here. Bow Wow's lyrics are EXTREMELY repetive and claims that Face Off is "music at it's purest". In almost every song Bow Wow has a girl who already has a boyfriend. Bow Wow is better than him though because he is either "flyer, richer, and he drives an Astin Martin". Bow wow also claims to be a "young Ron Jeremy". Omarion definantly took a step back on this album. His first solo LP I consider a modern R&B classic. Face Off was sounds like it was rushed. There's a mentioning of Kanye West's song Good Life on "Baby Girl". That song was realeased only a couple months before Face Off was realeased. Anyways... Face Off sticks to the formula and will appeal mostly the young. Being 20 years old and a young guy myself, I am old enough to know there is alot of better Hip Hop out there to enjoy... but hot songs like Hood Star, Listen, and Girlfriend will be in rotation on my iPod.

One of the most disapointing albums of the year,

During the holiday season most R&B/Hip Hop artists give us some of their best work, this can be said for Mary J. Blige, Mario, The Dream and Styles P who have all released superior albums in the past month. However this isn't the case with Face Off the first and hopefully last album from the Bow Wow/Omarion dream team. As a 26 year old man I can say I was looking forward to this album espically since Bow Wow had shown growth on The Price Of Fame CD. Outta My System and Don't Know About were two of my favorite gulity pleasure songs of last year. I also figured since Omarion's 21 CD flopped big time that he would deliver a quality album, boy I was wrong. Omarion's vocals sound worse than ever on this CD and don't even get me started on the prodution . The production sounds like Bow & O were high one night and just messed around with Fruity Loops. One would think that after a sucessful teaming on Let Me Hold You that the two would deliver a better album and not this trite rushed product.
