Excellent, easy ideas for face painting at a party. The book includes great tips and step by step instructions. It even includes 12 punch out cards, each with its own instruction, that you can allow kids to choose a design from - and the book has an envelope to store the cards! The paint is by Wolfe Brothers - a professional quality face paint manufacturer. Probably not the right book for a professional face painter, but it is full of kid pleasing manageable designs for us non-artist parents or even school aged kids! As usual with Klutz books, I couldn't be happier!! (This review is for the 2007 edition)

This product was inexpensive comared to paying a face painter, it was very easy to use, and can be used over and over again. If you are having a party for little children, grab a teen-ager to help you paint some faces and you are all set! Highly recommended...there will be plenty of smiling children!

I purchased this item for my 5y/o daughter, we have lots of fun recreating the ideas on this book. The face paints included are great, the colors are bright, dry fast and wash very easily with water.

I bought this product for my son's 5th birthday party. I've never painted faces before, but by the end of the day I felt like a pro! The directions are easy to follow and the paints are excellent quality. I was worried that there wouldn't be enough paint for everyone, but I painted at least 20 full faces easily with plenty of paint left over. This is truly a great product and I would recommend it to anyone.

After getting looped into doing face painting for a second grade class end-of-the-year party, I was scrambling for ideas. I had NEVER done this before and am not particularly artistic. I had only a day to learn how to face paint! I picked-up this book and got to work. Within the first few strokes, I was easily painting the designs shown in the book because step-by-step photos with instructions made it THAT EASY! I practiced on my arm, then on my kids. The next day, I brought this book with me. The spiral binding makes it so easy to lay-flat and reference.

The best part at the event was the tear-out design cards that come in the book! The perforated cards neatly remove from the book. Each card has a design on the front. I laid the cards out and the children waiting in line could look through them to pick the design they wanted. When they got to the front of the line, they handed me the card and right on the back of the design card is the step-by-step photos of how to do it! So convenient for a first-timer-in-a-crunch like me! And the children loved it! By the end of the afternoon, I was on my way to making my own designs by request as well as the favorites from the book. I couldn't have done it without this book.

A note on quality: When I purchased the Klutz book and paints, I also purchased another book, a kit by another brand, some other brushes, and some face painting crayons. I determined in my first attempts that the Klutz book and paints far surpassed the others in quality and delight to use! The crayons and other paints I had bought were waxy, did not layer or blend, and the book wasn't of much use at all. I was painting on children of many different skin colors, and only this kit showed such brilliant and bright color even on the darkest African skin to the fairest of white children. I wish I had ONLY purchased this Klutz book, it was worth every penny!

The success and fun of the face painting at the party was made possible because of this book!

I first saw this product at a local kids fair and assumed the person doing the face painting was a decent artist because the designs were so intricate. I wrote down the name of the book since my kids were so thrilled with their faces at the fair. The art fairy didn't come to my birth when my talents were being assigned (think stick people), so I assumed I wouldn't be able to get quite the same kind of results. My daughter opted to use some of her birthday money to get this book and it's really fantastic. I was easily able to follow the directions to make very impressive face art on my daughters. My only suggestion is to buy additional face paint. The book provides a reasonable amount, but my kids did so much face and body art that we'll need more soon.

...well not really a baby; my daughter is now 4, but she loves this now as much as she did when I bought it for her when she was two. Instead of candy or stickers, I used this as incentive to potty train her and guess what--it worked like a charm!!! She was fully potty-trained in less than a week! I followed a lot of ideas from the book and it really made me look like I knew what I was doing. My daughter got so many compliments and people genuinely thought I was super talented and artistic--ha! The paints go on so well, the colors are vivid, easy to blend and dries well without getting stiff or have that cakey look. Use soap and water and it comes off easily. Plus they last forever.

After 2 years I'm finally ready to order another one. I ran out of the white color and the brush has disappeared. I've tried to replace it with high end boar bristle cosmetic brushes but nothing worked as well as the brush that came with this book. The best $17 spent.

I have tried many face paints.. These, by far, are the best I have used. If you want your work to look professional, these are the ones you need to use.

I ordered a couple different face paints to use with my kids (3 and 5) on a rainy day or for some fun things they could do with Daddy when I ran out of other ideas to keep them entertained. The other product did not dry well and easily smeared on hands, clothing, furniture, etc - you can imagine where all kids rub their faces & extremities. :)

These paints dried much more quickly. Actually, if you leave them on all day, you have to scrub fairly hard to remove them, but hey, you can't have it both ways. :) The kids love the face and body painting - as another reviewer said, they "do" their faces, but they tattoo their arms, legs, and about any place else they can get away with.

I'll be buying more of this brand.

I was asked to help out with entertainment at a birthday party and had no experience face painting. Someone recommended this book, and while I was skeptical, I thought the price was right. I decided to try what looked like the hardest face (the butterfly) first just to see what I could do, and the results blew me away. Thanks to the clear, easy to follow directions, I had a Monarch butterfly on my daughter's face in about 15 minutes. The kids at the party loved all the choices and the parents were impressed, too. I would give this book more stars if I could. We will be face painting all the time now.
