5.0 out of 5 stars ...And now I am a Professional Face Painter!!

2.0 out of 5 stars fun ideas, bad paints
My friend used these paints to do make a design on her arm and it took three days to wash off! The book has a great concept and great ideas, but I would recommend using different face paints.

I bought this set about 10 years ago as I was asked to do some face painting at an MDA fund raiser. I absolutely loved it! I have always been interested in face painting and when I began doing the faces in this book, I became even more interested. The instructions were so simple, they make a beginner look like a pro! They encourage creativity in each design, so I began to elaborate on their ideas and started to get better and better. Eventually I began to do birthday parties and the such and now, believe it or not, I charge $75 to $100 an HOUR for my face painting!! I am a PROFESSIONAL FACE PAINTER and I swear I have this book to thank for it. Granted, my paintings are now comparable to the Broadway show "Cats." But I still have my book and my original pallette of paint that came with it, although the book is now being held together with some string and twist-ties! Thank you, Klutz!! (p.s. I have NEVER had ANY trouble washing these paints off.) (...)

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just for Halloween, August 27, 2000
By
JULI BOVARD (Ellsworth AFB, SD) - See all my reviews

I bought this Klutz book of Face Painting over 2 years ago for Haloween and my daughter has enjoyed it for the past 2 years- not only on Halloween but EVERY day. She and her friends love to come in and make themselves up now. Not only do they "do" their faces, but they tattoo their arms, legs, and about any place else they can get away with. It has lasted sooooo long. My husband even took it for our last Halloween in Australia for him and some buddies to use for a haunted house. I thought it would be one of those things that just sat on a shelf after one use but it really hasn't been! I am now purchasing my SECOND one for the next couple of years! Truly, one of the best things i have bought in recent years.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE Best Face Painting Book!, September 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Face Painting (Spiral-bound)
This book has it all; full face, cheek art, body art, etc., and the instructions are thorough and easy to follow. The non toxic paints are great, they go on and can be removed easily. There are also additional ideas to add your own creativity. A wonderful book for both parents and children!

4.0 out of 5 stars Face Painting by Klutz Press -- recommended, September 7, 2001
This review is from: Face Painting (Spiral-bound)
A basic, but well-done, book on face painting. It serves as a very good introduction to the topic, with excellent advice, and lots of useful colorful photographs. It includes many examples of face painting, both small designs and full-face designs. As normal with the Klutz series, it's well-written, well-illustrated, and very useful.
If you're just wanting to get your 'feet wet', it's an excellent introduction. However, if you are thinking of doing this professionally as part of your clowning, entertainment or ministry, you might want to take a look at Mama Clown's face painting book instead.[....]

5.0 out of 5 stars best face painting for children, September 8, 2005
This review is from: Face Painting (Spiral-bound)
I had a carnival party for my son's 3rd birthday. This product was fabulous. It came with the book explained everything and I was not worried about irritations to the face because the company is reputable and the packaging is great. My face painters were not professionals just young girls I hired from the block and they followed the instructions from the book . Everyone's face was painted great!.. I also bought klutz's body art crayon book they did that too. I loved the colors no other face paint is as good as this. And with young children this was a godsend. I bought 2 face paint books and two crayon art books. I have bought presents for my niece from this company they have all types of great things for children and pre adolescents. Amazon has the best price too. Boutique stores sell these items for as much as $19.99 each. Amazon's amazing $13.00 price tag was great.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Face Painting Book in Many Ways, October 31, 2006
This review is from: Face Painting (Spiral-bound)
This book has been around a while now. It still looks as new, vibrant and current as the first copy I was given as a gift over 10 years ago. I think it has been that long or longer probably. The point is that this book brought my family together. My dad is a pretty good artist or at least better than the average person. He will never admit that but this book put him to the test. My mom tried painting faces at one of my first birthday parties that I was old enough to remember. She grabbed this book, set up in my bedroom, she sat in a kiddies chair and let the kids come on up one at a time! Let's just say she was not as gifted an artist as she was hoping she may be. I remember my dad looking on and he suggested something with a certain brush stroke or color or whatever. The next thing you know he is sitting down in that tiny kid's chair hunched over painting faces of little kids and the line was line was backing out to the living room. He let the kids look through the book and pick out faces they wanted. I am certain it was a challenge for him. But I must honestly say that this book gave him the tools he needed to rise for the occasion. Needless to say the whole experience was a success on all levels. It was my dad who bought this book. He likes books. This book caught his eye. I remember him telling me how well designed and conceived and executed it was. He purchased it on speculation as a reference as he does with most books. He always says that you never know when you just may need it. Well, this book has a special place in my bookcase next to My Little Golden Books, The Wizard of Oz and some other books for my childhood. You never stop learning from the best. Oh yes this book is quite different from those, but you can still take it out return or learn a thing or two you may have missed. And this book is one of the best. Practically speaking, this book has everything you need to put a smile on a kid's face. If you think you can't paint or put a smile on that that little kid you should take a look at this book. Oh yes, my mom finally learned that she too could paint with a little help from this book As for me, my turn to pick up that brush will come some day. Many thanks are in order.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not an artist? Doesn't matter!, March 28, 2004
This review is from: Face Painting (Spiral-bound)
A terrific introduction with reassurance for the uninitiated throughout and superb supplies.

If you are reading this then you have at least as much artistic talent as I do, and probably more. In spite of not being able to pass stick figures in kindergarten I bought this book hoping to learn to create a reasonable painted face while having something fun to do on rainy days with my 5 year old daughter.

IT WORKED! We have a blast with this and I have now painted her friends, my sister, my daughter's classmates and teachers all with great results.

If you are looking to become a professional make up artist, perhaps this is not the book for you. But if you are looking to be a hero to someone you know ages 2 to 102 this book is the ticket.

Note: the terrific kryolan face paints can be purchased separately from several web sites or perhaps even a local theater supply store if you are in a decent sized town/city... (...)

This is a great book for beginners. Easy to understand instructions with designs that kids love. The paints are non-toxic and come off easily. I have had this book a long time and have gotten a lot of milage out of it. I definitely recomend it for any age! (:
