Book Description

2010
Facebook is changing our lives and our world. Parents must deal with this reality to protect their children and guide them to success.

This book gives you answers to the top 25 questions parents ask about Facebook. Building on their "Facebook for Parents" class at Stanford University, the sister-brother team of Linda Phillips and BJ Fogg will guide you. Their chapters are short, easy to read, and relevant to lives of parents today.

Linda Fogg Phillips is the mother of eight children from age 11 to 26. She brings a wealth of experience to Facebook for Parents. From her vantage point, she has seen the good and bad that Facebook introduces into the life of a family. Her insights give parents answers.

Dr. BJ Fogg is a research psychologist who directs Stanford's Persuasive Technology Lab. In his first Facebook course, his students created apps that motivated over 16 million user installations. Today, he's the leading expert on how Facebook changes people's behaviors.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pragmatic hope for parents with teens, March 15, 2010
This review is from: Facebook for Parents: Answers to the Top 25 Questions (Paperback)
As the father of two current teens, post-teen survivor of two and one preteen to go, I have found this book beyond helpful. If parents aren't actively communicating with their teenage children via text messaging, facebook, etc., they are only to blame themselves for the lost opportunity to bond in ways heretofore unknown.

This book offers hands-on practical advice, garnered from real world experience, on how to both understand the social mindset of today's teen as well as tangible methods of being invited into their Facebook lives. The result is a much deeper relationship with your child as they both learn to understand and admire your willingness to be a part (not intrusion) of their "social networking" world.

This has benefited my entire family in ways I wouldn't have recognized were it not for the guidance and experience of the authors: a sibling combination of one Stanford research psychologist and one Mother of 8, a formidible combination. Worth every moment...

I have been hesitant to participate in facebook, but this book helped me to understand the settings available, privacy loopholes, facebook applications and their impact, which was just what I was looking for. I literally sat down with book in hand as I reviewed how my account was set-up and made some changes that make me feel much more comfortable with the facebook experience. Many of my extended family members use facebook every day to stay in touch so now I feel more confident to jump in.

5.0 out of 5 stars I need all the help I can get, April 11, 2010

With three kids, I have always felt I don't have the time to facebook, but as my daughter quickly approaches her teen years I have learned I need to find time to facebook. This book has helped me understand how kids these days view the technology at there fingertips. It is a quick read but a very helpful tool to help parents help their children use facebook safely and in a positive fashion, cause lets face it facebook isn't going away!
