This album comes from a man who just loves the bass as well as teaching and contributing a great deal to the world of jazz. You get a little of many styles of bass playing here, all high quality performances with great back up players. Dr.Valk, yes he's got a doctorate, has chosen some first rate musicians to perform with. Clayton Dyess' guitar playing is first rate, compared to Joe Pass, Kenny Burrell and Howard Roberts. On Bright Size Life Dyess tears it up, more than just quoting Metheny. You can't go wrong buying this record if you love jazz and jazz bass.
