Book Description

March 13, 2009
Facets of Liberty is an anthology about human freedom. Many of the thought-provoking articles in the original edition came from the libertarian student movement in the 1960s and 1970s, before the rise of the Libertarian Party. Considered radical at the time, most were penned by well-known authors such as political adviser Karl Hess, entrepreneur Douglas Casey, law professor Butler D. Shaffer, philosopher Robert LeFevre, psychologist Thomas Szasz, Reason magazine founder Robert Poole, space industrialist Gary C. Hudson, feminist Wendy McElroy, agorist Samuel Edward Konkin III, historian Richard J. Maybury, anarcho-capitalist and economist David Friedman, and many more, all selected and edited by L.K. Samuels. A great source explaining the different meanings of individual liberty and classical liberalism. For this second edition, 12 new articles were added by several new authors including historian Jeffrey Rogers Hummel, economist David R. Henderson, blogger Martin Masse and TV commentator Mark Selzer.

Facets of Liberty is an amazing collection of well thought out and well written essays on everything Libertarian. I'm a Libertarian but i've never read anything about the subject really. I've always wanted to dig deeper into the political beliefs and this book certainly does that. The book is setup to lay a sound foundation of thought and information and then build upon that solid foundation. The book is well organized and insightful with great essays from many promenent libertarians. Many of the articles within the book were written in the late 60s and 70s and its shocking how much things haven't changed in the past thirty to forty years. These articles are just as viable and important as they were then. I think i'm going to buy a few more copies of this to give to friends/family. Its that good. I was afraid it would be dry and boring but its anything but. I can't get enough of it. Highly recommended reading.

By Dave A.
I saw a car pull up into my local coffee shop with a Ron Paul sticker on the bumper. I gave my usual "Go Ron Paul" comment and began talking with the car owner for a few minutes. He turned out to be L. K. Samuels and gave me a free copy of his book. I devoured it. The book presented various articles describing everything from what libertarians believe, how they view controversial issues, what our governments have done wrong in difficult situations and action steps for embracing these new beliefs. Overall, the book strongly resonated with me and has give me a ton to think about.
