Editorial Reviews

Review

"A book that delivers an up-to-date account of advances in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery...It delivers on every front and is a 'must have' for aspiring and established facial plastic surgeons alike." -- The Journal of Laryngology & Otology

"[A] welcome update to what has become a classic textbook in the field...a broad overview of the field...updated and expanded...the use of color allows more detail to be conveyed in the illustrations...excellent textbook...useful reference."--Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology

"[Four stars] This is both a comprehensive overview and an update on facial plastic and reconstructive surgery...written by recognized experts...This book is...one of a kind."--Doody's Review

"Dr. Papel and colleagues have done an admirable job...The authors have fulfilled their goal of putting together the core information that covers virtually the entire field of facial plastic surgery. I will sum up by saying simply, 'If I could have only one textbook concerning facial plastic surgery on my shelf, there is no doubt in my mind that this would be it.' "--J. Randall Jordan, Head and Neck

From the Author

When the first edition of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery was published 10 years ago we knew that many of the chapters would need updating soon thereafter. The rapid development of new technologies and techniques has made this update even more essential. In this new edition we have included information on the applications of new endoscopic, laser, and microvascular techniques. New biomaterials are analyzed with regard to basic science and clinical use. A chapter on ethics in facial plastic surgery has been included due too its growing importance in the modern medicolegal world. The aesthetic surgery and rhinoplasty, and congenital deformities sections have been expanded due to the rapid development of information in these areas. Many more options for reconstructive techniques have also been included.

As in the first edition the mission of this text is to provide the core information necessary for a surgeon to research a specific problem or technique in facial plastic surgery. Each chapter provides a general overview, basic science essentials, clinical applications, and appropriate references. This text is not intended to be a surgical atlas or a comprehensive text on each subject. We strive to present the critical core information for practicing surgeons, fellows, and residents alike.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good result for the bold proposal to cover all aspects of the surgical face, October 17, 2009

This book has a concise approach on a region with infinite aesthetic and functional variations. Good source of general information about facial plastic surgery. As an oculoplastic surgeon, I can say this book adds some ideas about the areas surrounding the one in which I mainly act but doesn't offer any detailed or deep knowledge about all the face - including oculoplastic surgery.

A very good, but not fantastic, result for the bold proposal to cover all aspects of the surgical face in only a thousand pages. The book is very very good, but I'm sure that the authors are better than it.
