This review is from: The Facilitator's Book of Questions: Tools for Looking Together at Student and Teacher Work (Paperback)
This is an excellent book to support facilitating the improvement in teaching and learning for all subjects across all levels. The authors have provided 3 protocols to review teacher and student work. The first encourages the group to look deeply at student's work, keeping in mind the presenting teacher's focus question. The book provides the facilitator with strategies to support the group to work through the protocol, asking questions to refocus the group's thinking, to guide the group to address the presenter's question and support the presenter through what can at times be an intimidating situation.
The second protocol allows the group to support the presenting teacher to 'fine tune' something they are working on, be it a project, an assessment rubric or task for students. The third protocol provides a forum is essential to allow a group to work through a problem the presenting teacher offers.
The book is easy to read with a large number of example questions that a facilitator may use in a variety of situations. I would recommend it for someone new to the facilitator role or a lead teaching who is trying to developing a greater sense of collegiality in PLTs.
