This book has every story, person, event and fact imaginable. It's a thick book, well-researched, and a must-have reference for anyone who loves The Mountain. It even has a copy of the Park's original charter. Filley is a long-time expert on the Park, and her interest shows.

Bette Filley's "Big Fact Book About Mount Rainier" is interesting for a couple of reasons. First, she does present the reader with a large amount of history and information about Mt. Rainier, but some of the numbers regarding rockfalls, avalanches, glacial statistics, etc. change from chapter to chapter and this makes all of the statistics in the book suspect. This may seem like a small thing, but it does make the book useless as an accurate research tool.
While the book does contain what may be the largest single collection of Mt. Rainier trivia out there and many interesting items of information it soon becomes very tedious trying to sort out what's correct or incorrect. Is it a good read? If you're looking for entertainment, portions of it are good. But if you're looking for hard facts, look elsewhere.

Definitely a fact book. Anything you want to know. The only concern is that it is dated, probably 15 years old by this time, some information may not be up to date. Great for people who visit Rainier and have questions, or simply just want to read and learn.
