Book Description

Faction Paradox October 2003
Faction Paradox: A group of time-travelling ritualists, saboteurs and subterfugers -- essentially, the criminal-cult to end all criminal-cults. The Faction seeks to subvert history to its own ends, preferably by letting its rivals kill each other off, then swooping in to seize whatever's left -- presuming the Universe survives...An examination of ritual and suburban horror, This Town Will Never Let Us Go features the 19-year-old Inangela, a city-dweller who's under observation by Faction Paradox's elders and archons. Before this story's done, Inangela's going to encounter the Great Urban Horror--an unidentified force seeking to tunnel its way out of the ground and feed on the surface world.

About the Author

Lawrence Miles was born in 1972. His earliest memory is of being terrified by a giraffe at London Zoo (he'd never seen anything that big before). So far, he's written eight novels, but he describes Faction Paradox: This Town Will Never Let Us Go, the first book in the Faction Paradox novel range, as "arguably the first one that counts."

5.0 out of 5 stars The best mainstream science fiction you've never heard of, May 2, 2010

Few authors and critics know real time-travel, science & historical fiction like Lawrence Miles. More people should be aware of his works and his influence on contemporary continent spanning television and sci-fi. I wish he would write much more Faction Paradox, and similar derivative works.

If you yearn for more background depth and character development in Doctor Who episodes without actually concentrating on, or even mentioning Doctor Who, you want to read the Faction Paradox series (someone please convince his publishers to create Kindle releases..)

Lawrence Miles has written some amazingly good science fiction, including his invention of the Faction Paradox (see some of the other books). This book though never seemed, to me, to completely come together. There are lots of ideas, characters, and plot advancement, but the sum of the parts didn't quite come up to a brilliant whole.

That said, it's a great book, and if you're reading the other Faction Paradox books, you'll read this regardless of the reviews. And, it's better than the vast majority of the science fiction novels available, so go ahead.
