excellent gospel rap,

I have liked these guys for a long time because of thier ability to combine solid rap with a positive message. Grits has managed to offer some high quality rap to a hungry rap culture. The music is bump'in and the message is jump'in. I Highly reccomend this cut.

Not the best of Grits but still fun to listen to,

I gave the album 3 stars just because I have all of Grits cds and this is my least favorite. Not to say I don't like it though. Grits was still coming along nicely with this 2md album of theirs and it seems that they overdid it a bit with the same sort of beats on many of the songs. Some of the songs are rather talkish too. The ones that stand out though for me are #13 Gospel Rap; Parables (look out for Knowdaverbs, does nice job) and #17 Blame It On You which goes on for quite awhile but it has a nice beat to it. Good album if you're a Grits fan and just want to groove to them but not good for a first time listener. Check out Dichotomy A or Grammatical Revolution instead for their best work (in my opinion).

Very well done!,

Grits' second album is just as good as the first one as their rhymes can get with almost anyone's on the planet. Add to that their faith and hope in Jesus and that gives me some excellent music to listen to. Some of my favorites are "Mirage", "Aint sayin Nothin", "Hopes and Dreams" and "Fragmentation" is an excellent mix of not only fresh beats, but nice lyrics! To me, "Mental Releases" and "Factors of the Seven" are the best of the three.

Good for what it is,
This review is from: Factors of the Seven (Audio CD)
The CD is good for what it is. When you look at message and flow, I agree that Gospel Gangstaz are the tightest in the industry, but this CD was definately better than the first album and I personally believe the it was better than the one after it. It's good for what it is.

Back to earth,

When I first bought this CD, it immediately became my favorite. It was that way for a while, until I started hearing other albums that allowed me to reexamine my fascination. This is a very good album. The production is good, not as abstract as on their first album, "Mental Releases." It's more of an east coast feel, but very much what GRitS wants. The delivery of both emcees has improved greatly, but I think it's especially noticeable with Coffee. I personally think that their third album, "Grammatical Revolution," is better produced, has better delivery and lyrics and is basically a better album. However, for some reason, it just doesn't capture me like "Factors of the 7" did.

Some of the best hip-hop by anybody ever,

First of all, if your concept of Christian rap is limited to dc Talk (who got a whole lot better when they STOPPED trying to rap), then GRITS will be a wake-up call. This is, quite simply, one of the best hip-hop records I have ever heard, regardless of the fact that Bonafide and Coffee are believers. I would put this right up there in the realm of groundbreakers like De La Soul (3 feet high and buhloone mind state), Public Enemy's Fear of a Black Planet, Beastie Boys Paul's Boutique, and Run DMC Raising Hell. It's that good. The fact that GRITS are Christians is gravy. It's what makes the rest of the dish have graet flava. DON'T assume that it's all smiles and corn. GRITS keep it real, they just also know Who's in control. GREAT Record.

Completely Creative and Realistic Christian Rap,
By A Customer
This review is from: Factors of the 7 (Audio CD)
This album contains all the elements of 60's beat poetry, 70's Gil Scott-Heron like social commentary, 80's hip-hop and 90's retro rap. All of this is set against expertly mixed loops drawing from influences as varied as Charles Mingus, Stravinsky, Devo, Gil Scott-Heron and Funkadelic. There is true use of poetry and lyrical invention. The music consist of much more than the usual manufactured beats. It is well chosen, original and varied to set the background for each piece. The message is true Christianity with a very practical slant that is especially relevant to teen/young adult experiences. The messages are strong and positive applications of the group's convictions. However, the Christian themes are not "pie in the sky" and there is even a good old-fashioned MC throw down. This album will appeal to more than the average rap fan. It is one the most creative projects of the genre.

This one made me a Christian Rap Fan!,

I used to be one of those who said that Rap had no place in the Gospel music world... It was the fruit of compromise. Thanks to Grits, I finally got the revelation. Their beats are innovative, the music is a smooth blend of jazz and hip-hop, and the lyrics are absolutely poetic. The Gospel message is there, too, and it's completely uncompromising. This one was even better than its predecessor, "Mental Releases". I just bought "Grammatical Revolution" and anxiously await its arrival. GREAT JOB, BONIFIDE AND COFFEE!
